I have a 2006 with the 48RE auto. I installed temp gauge (Isspro) and everything worked well until this past weekend. I noticed that the temp would jump up to 250 degrees and then back down to 150 160 range, then a little while it would jump again to a high temp and then back down again. Has any body else had this problem? I was thinking a short in a wire but upon inspection I could not see any problem. I check the line temp with a info red thermometer and it was not reading high. Do I have a bad sender or converter box?

The probe is installed in the line I got from Geno's. It has been working just fine for the past 3 years. Something has gone amiss in the past few days. The normal temps pulling are 160 tom 190 degrees. This last problem has me wondering if I have a more serious problem.

I have had my Isspro's installed for the better part of 3 yrs now. They work the same as the day I installed them. Not even a light bulb change.

One cause of a widely fluctuating EGT reading is a defective probe. You should be able to call or go to the manfactures website and get info on troubleshooting a bad probe. It generally involves using an ohm meter across the leads and getting a designated value. The other thing to check again is that you have clean connections and a good ground. Hope you find an inexpensive fix.

I initially suspected a gauge/sender problem too because my trans temp issue was very intermittent but it got more and more frequent over several months and eventually the temp started to spike every time I'd climb a hill. If you do have the same problem I had, it looks like you caught it early.

For grinns, did u check fluid level, my transmission guage did same thing, and found out it was 3 qts low and having air bubbles in pan.

Thanks Guys,

I call Geno's garage tech. and he told me that it was most likely the box or the probe. but first check the ground wire to make sure I had a good ground. In addition he said that if the probe or the box is bad you have to buy a whole new gauge system they do not sell the pieces.

Puller--Don't know what kind of gauges you have. I have Westach and you can purchase a probe/sender directly from them. First you need to diagnose the problem before you spend any money. I'm not trying to cut Geno's out of the mix, they are good to do business with. But if you only need the sender then it's a simple decision. Call the manufacture of the gauge and as for technical assistance, and find out if you can buy just the sender from them. The sender is a more common failure than the gauge. If you have Westach gauges their website is Westach
