The transmission on my '92 is making noise . Something is loose inside. What is the latest thinking on replacements? Rebuild the Getrag or replace it with a NV4500 or NV 5600? What experience is out there?

It's all a question of time or $$.

If you can turn a wrench, an don't want to spend a lot, rebuild.

If $ not a problem, go with a 4500. Make sure it's a good one. They have problems also. Will

I just had my Getrag rebuilt. Trying to find someone that can rebuild it for you is the hard part. If you have the mechanical ability and tools to pull the transmission, then thats a different issue. That was a project beyond my skill level. The costs when I priced it were about $2,500 to have the Getrag rebuilt and about $4,500 to get the NV4500 installed. Going to the NV 4500 there are extra parts that you have to buy. I went with the rebuild. I have some noise in nuetral that I did not have before, but it works well. The original pilot bearing ate the input shaft, but otherwise there were no extra parts needed. There is a real difference of opinion on the strength of the Getrag vs the NV4500. I went with the opinion that the Getrag was better than the NV4500.

the 5600 is without a doubt a very very heavy duty high quality unit, the problem is the price to get one and the lack of parts availability... They weren't too common... only an option as a 6 speed over the nv4500. I've seen them on ebay for around 3,200 dollars + 1000 core charge... so if you don't have an NV5600 only you're looking at nearly 5000 dollars for a hunk of iron uninstalled and rigged to our application!

put a 4500 in my 93 w350 bought the whole thing from advanced adapters

comes with everything you need, not to hard to put in uses origiinal driveline

the only part I didn't like was cutting the hole larger for the shifter. heres the address. 4WD Applications-Advance Adapters Inc.
