I have 170,000 miles on a stock transmission. Never even changed the fluid. I had a comp, intake, exhaust amd guages installed at 70,000. I have been very good at only running the box at 3x5. My torque converter is shuttring under load and my transmission is starting to slip. The other day I had a wild hair and decided to run on 5x5 to verify any transmission issues. I had a code come up- PO253. I checked with my actron scanner and it read "injection pump metering control A low". I reset and turned box back to 3x5 and no other issues. I am dropping off the truck with Jeff GArmon on friday for a full trans rebuild, raptor lift pump and tweaked waste gate. If needed, a vp-44 will also be installed. (I am only boosting to 15. Jeff says I need to be at 35psi). Truck is 2002 auto 4x4, 9cm turbo, edge comp box, 4" silverline exhaust, workhorse intake, quadzilla commander, 35" terra grapplers.

I only achieve 22 psi max boost, at least that is what is indicated by my autometer boost gauge. I also have a 2002, 47RE, with HY35 turbo. Why does your buddy think you should be at 35 psi? That seems too high for HY35. Just curious. Thanks!

170,000 on a stock transmission with no fluid change??? I wish you could have come by and put your touch on mine:) The HY at 35 is way over its head. When I added the Smarty with the truck and the injectors the EGTs were outrageous. I would save up and get a charger to give it the air it needs to make ALL the power your comp can make. I went with a stock BW-S300. Simple and available IF you search. The VP experience is unpleasant if you have it happening to you. Mine gave no warning and simply quit when my son and I were coming home from a friend's. I hate to say just fix it(read: EXPENSIVE), but while it is in the shop is the time to get things done. Good luck with it. You'll like having a new transmission, assuming yours is getting old and slow:-laf:-laf

Ok, so I dropped of the truck with Jeff Garmon today and asked him to give me a ride to the rental car place so I could rent a vehicle while he repairs mine. He says "here, just take my truck" and handed me the keys to his shop truck. The truck he is letting me borrow is by no means a "looker", but I have to say, I drove the 60 miles back home and it runs strong with an awesome shift in the transmission. The odometer shows 277,000 and some change. Just the fact that he is loaning me a truck while he repairs mine says to me that he is a stand up guy and pretty daggone cool. He said he wouldn't know about my vp44 until the lift pump is changed to a raptor and the transmission is done, then drive it and watch for codes with box on 5x5, then hook to his computer to see what the story tells. Hopefully it doesn't need an injection pump, but if it is weak, I will tell him to replace it. I am sure hoping that when I get it back it will be better than new.

Garmon's Diesel in McDonough has a great reputation for service excellence and fair pricing.

Did you have the J hook on your wastegate? I'm just a little curious since I've never messed with one and a buddy is asking me for advice on his power upgrade.

BDaughrty, the turbo is stock and I don't know how Jeff Garmon will adjust the turbo. There is currently no J hook installed. When I get it back, I will let you know what he did. But I have to say that Jeff is definately a professional and very much "in the know" when it comes to these trucks. He makes his own parts for every part of the trans. I saw the shop and he gave me the tour. Awesome torque converters. His logo is machined on the billet cover.
