Guys,

I am about to install my SBC Con OFE .

It appears possible to remove both the transmission & transfer case together rather than breaking them apart.

I bought a transmission jack from Northern and it looks like it will work great.

Your opinions are appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom

I pulled them together but found it easier to install the transmission alone. FYI just in case you have not read the threads, you should not have to spread the frame to remove the crossmember, just lift it a hair and slide it towards the back. I don't remember, you might have to raise the transmission/transfer case a bit to do this.

Yes it is an achievable task,I have done it three times,But I do have a single post lift and a transmission jack that helps a lot. If you are doing it on the floor it may be easier to take down in two pieces. We did a 2 wheel drive Saturday in about 4. 5 hours. Be sure to use an alignment tool to center the clutch and the service manual says the pilot bearing has a seal lip in one end and to install it to the clutch side. Good luck with your task. Tim

You didn't say whether you have a 5 or 6 speed. The 6 speed is much heavier, and will probably overpower the release valve on most transmission jacks if the transfer case is left connected to the transmission.

With a 5 speed, I usually leave the transfer case connected.
