1995 4x4 5 speed 100,762 miles 241 transfer case

I needed to replace the clutch, drained the oil from transmission and when removing the transfer case which included the center section that the transfer case mechanism bolts to and hooks to the back of the transmission I struck oil, about 1 qt. Transfer case oil thats not supposed to be there. Parts guy at Dodge says I need to replace seal #5019020 AB.

1. Do I need to separate the transfer case from the housing that goes between the transfer case and the transmission to replace that seal? My 95 Dodge service manual does not show that piece or at least I can't find it.

2. It's obvious there is a seal leaking ATF fluid into that center section so why didn't it drain out thru the bottom hole that the transmission oil returns to the transmission thru?

I can put it all back together as soon as someone elightens me.

Thanks very much, Tom/Idaho

I would seperate the adapter that is on the transfer case. It could make it easier to change the seal. As far as your other question I have no clue!
