i just installed a transgo shift kit in my truck when i went for a test drive i got a nice firm shift from 1-2 in second it started to slip and then actually locked up the left rear tire. i spoke to a very very reliable source and he told me the band adjustment was the problem and i remember tightening it and not loosening it. i just want to verify before i drain my new oil and replace it that this is most likely the problem

ya both the low/reverse band and second gear band nead to be adjust til snug then backed off. Trans go shows in the kit how far to back off.

ok its still doing the same thing as described above it seem to me as if its trying to go into park or reverse. it appears to me also as if the manual valve is binding or something to where its not allowing the fluid to flow where it needs to. i am going to install the stock manual valve again and see if that takes cre of it if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.

Drain the new oil in a clean pan, strain it and put it back in... ... it's fine!

i adjusted it just how the transgo instructions said tightened it until snug and backed it off however many turns it said.

You adjust the second gear band externally. The bands can't be replaced without removal and disassembly of the trans. Re-installing stock manual valve won't help either. If bands are adjusted to spec, you may have crossleak where valvebody bolts to case. You didn't forget to reinstall accumulator piston did you? It usually falls out while valvebody is off. Keep us posted.

piston is in fine bands are good i just did something wrong reassembling it. it feels likes its trying to catch two gears at the same time i am going to take to a nearby shop. oh well at least i learned a whole lot about how everything works i guess thats worth something.

all seven checkballs are in their correct location i guess ill just have to wait and see what they say, i bet its just something basic simple and stupid i overlooked.

I installed a Transgo kit many miles ago. It ended up wrecking my transmission. The spacer that goes in the front servo was a little bit too thick. That caused a snap ring to come loose. By the time I had figured it out there was a big mess. Their help was really lousy while I was trying to figure out what was wrong. I completely rebuilt the trans and installed a DTT VB and TC. That was about 140K miles ago. Transgo is a lousy outfit with really poor quality stuff.

I know this doesn't help fix the problem, but I've also had a lot of "issues" with my transgo kit. It took a year of tinkering to keep it from going into limp mode after every start. Even now I still will go into limp every few months. The tech line was no help at all. Now I'm just saving my pennies for a DTT.

Wow, that's too bad about your luck with trans-go.

I installed their VB kit in my 4L80E and it works great and they were able to clear up a couple of ?? right away.

Did you actually torque the VB bolts with a TQ wrench or just snug them up by hand? VB and cases can be very sensitive to uneven torque loads.

I'm looking into some sort of an upgrade for my '98 auto in the future. May just pull the trans for a complete tear down when the time comes.

I was very careful to follow the instructions exactly. I also have a service manual. Of course I used my torque wrench. The part that burned me up is that they just brushed me off when I attempted to get questions answered. Just cheap low quality junk!!!

The reason I mentioned the shift lever adjustment stems from an experience I recently had following a VB rebuild by BD at their shop in Abbotsford.

After I got home there were occasions when the gears would clash when manually shifting between reverse and park.

A call to BD prompted an apology and instructions on adjusting the linkage between the shift lever and the transmission which cleared up the problem.

That should have been checked when the technician re-installed the valve body.
