All,

I am staying away from brand discussion on this question as I know everyone has an opinion and everyone wants their stuff to be the best. My question is I have a 06 megacab that has 56k miles on it. It is bone stock with exception of gauges I added at 18k miles and a double deep transmission pan. I have been monitoring the transmission temps eversince and have not gotten it above 170*. It usually runs around 130*. I would like to get a smarty and possibly a bigger turbo but didn't want to upgrade the whole transmission like I had to do on the last truck. My question is can I just upgrade the torque converter and valvebody and call it good, or at this point do I need to address the entire transmission. My ultimate goal would be for it come in around 500 hp. Little more little less doesn't matter. It is a family truck that we use for hauling horses and kids around. I never plan on towing a trackhoe or 40' trailer just a 3 horse slant and a little camper.

if you use suncoasts complete valvebody kit and follow their instructions to the "T" you will be amazed... . o and their convertor... . call and talk to em... . i have atleast 20 satisfied customers... . if not more...

jraker, how far are you from DTT? I see you have used their stuff on your 01. 500 HPs? You are gonna need more than a sack of parts for your slush box. You gotta have billet dis and billet dat put together by a master builder. Twin turbos, head studs, cam, programmers, etc,. It is nice to know that there are still people around that have 12-15k to play with. Oh yeah! And don't forget a new set of "sticks" on top of that! Mark

I wouldn't throw money at a stock trans unless your engine was close to stock. You need tough internals to hold 500 hp. I would just get a local shop to bulid it with quality parts or leave the HP gains alone.

like i said... . call suncoast they are honest people and i have sold many valvebody and torque convertor packages with many happy customers... . no you cant do "MAJOR" upgrades but can handle tuner and towing very nice...

Unless you have a hidden problem, a shift kit plus a few billet pieces and a TC will handle 500 HP nicely as long as you don't thrash it. You have few enough miles it should be ok to add some parts. Biggest mod to hold the power is going to be a shift kit, biggest to put the power to the ground will be the TC. The rest of the internal parts are pretty beefy and will take some hard use.
