Hello all,

since my auto transmission is being upgraded by Goerend, I'm wondering what the best fuel plate would be to go with it.

My truck's specs are in the signature below and currently I've got a stock plate in the stock position.

I've been reading up quite a bit, but since there's so many little differences in truck set up, I thought I'd ask the experts here :)

Any info is welcome and appreciated :)

I took my plate out and ground a #10 half moon into it. Works great for me and my auto. Mark where the front edge of the plate is with a sharp scribe, then when you reassemble it, move it 1/8" forward. When you grind the plate, do it slowly and cool often as not to overheat and anneal the steel... (soft plate==bad)

or you could just buy a #10 plate from piers. .

good luck

How is Dave setting it up? Single disc or triple? How much power did you tell him you wanted to have?

I had him build mine for 400, but I think I should have said 5-600hp. :-laf :-laf

You can see what I have in my sig. Can't slip this transmission at all. :D Couldn't say that about the stock POS.

okay, I've been reading up a little bit more :)

Tomorrow I'll be picking up the Dodge with the Goerend AT and triple disk TC installed and I want to drive it that way for a couple of weeks (to tell the difference before and after :-laf ), but I know the transmission will be able to hold some more power/torque now and was wondering what the difference is between a #8 and #10 plate (looked on web sites and such, but they didn't give me that info).

The rest of the set up is in my sig ... towing will be around 8k most of the time, but more than likely goose neck set ups will be in the near future :)

Any info is still welcome :)

Keep in mind that the straight shift transmission 215 HP P7100 pump uses different TST plates than the auto 180 HP pump for the same rated power. The 215 pump with a #12 = 230/605 as compared to a 180 pump with a #8 for 230/605.

Now to your question on plates for your 180 pump. A #8 is rated for 230/605 and a #10 is listed at 220/570.

I have a #8 full forward on my 97 and I want more. But in the search for more I will be looking at turbos too. But I don't know what my truck should feel like without the plate either so I can't compare.

If you haven't yet looked at the tst chart HERE is the link.

What plate to go with it is kind of a tough question. You tow, so the 10 plate with a 3kGSK would be a great choice. I think if you go with the 8 plate you may start to get a little warm. I don't know Texas, so I don't know what kinds of hills or mountians you may have around. The 8 with stock injectors may be ok. I went to a 6 plate right off the bat and... . well that was 3 years ago, so I don't recall for sure what my EGT's looked like before 370's.

I can tell you this, a 0plate, 191's, and stock 180injectors you can hit 1600 degrees before you hit 60mph, even with intake air mods, and a 14cm exhaust housing!

What is your goal? I know guys run 300hp and don't have much of an issue towing with a stock turbo.

looking at the above charts, based on the info given and talking with Chace at West Texas Turbo Diesel, I'll go with a #8 plate.

Today I picked up the Dodge with the Goerend transmission and 3disc TC installed and I can definitely feel the difference and it should even be better once I start towing with this combo.

But the #8 plate will have to wait a few weeks, until I'm up in San Angelo and area again ... but at least I'll get a feel for the transmission set up with no other factors changed ... and then of course after the install of the 8 plate :-laf

So far the Dodge has been running pretty cool, even last week when towing my junk up some long passes at 75 mph with cruise on -> pyro didn't go over 1150 and the boost didn't even hit 30# ... bet that'll change after the plate though :-laf We'll see what happens :)

Thanks again for all the info :)

it does make a difference towing the junk around ... we went down south this past Saturday with the toys (Jeeps, quads, dirt bikes) and it tows better than it did before :)

I'm happy I went this way ... now the plate :-laf

just a heads up on this question: after discussing it with Chace at WTTD I went with the #5 plate (230/675) and after having it in there for a couple of months now and towing junk all over the place all I can say is that I'm happy with this choice :D

The mileage might hurt a little more, but at least the Dodge does what I bought it for -> tow like a raped ape and on the hwy, even in the hills and mountains, I've got the ability to pass cars and 18wheelers without the EGTs getting out of hand :)
