Have an 03 2500 5. 9 with Auto 4 spd 47RE transmission. Am in process of installing an adjustable Predator Performance Module and am pulling a 5th wheel 13500 RV. Can any one tell me if a transmission upgrade is recommended and if so what that upgrade might consist of?? :)

Thanks Chuck in Austin

Duah,

You would have thought that I could have figured that out. Thanks much for the suggestion!! Just checked on prices $$900++:( :(

Your stock unit will BE FINE for a long time. The converter will last 30-40K and the trans will last easily as long. That is, if you drive like a normal person and you do not beat the hell out of the truck every time you can. .

30-40k? I think it will last a lot longer than that, like about 4x or 5x longer.

I highly recommend at least a torque converter. You have no idea how much power you are losing with the factory one. I know it sounds expensive, but you really have to drive one to believe it. I will never own another unbombed transmission, ever!!!!

Brad,

Thanks for the info. Do you per chance know what the appropriate discription of the tc is so that my traany shop will know what to order??

he wants to turn up the power and its not a 48re, it wont hold the power towing gcw of 21k without upgrades. at minimum do the vb to increase the line pressure so your stock tc will live longer. do a little now or a lot later.

I recommend researching transmission suppliers, DTT, Suncoast, and ATS. You can see from my signature what I run. I have DTT because of the installer that did mine. I felt really comfortable with him and his knowledge. You need to talk to authorized installers in your area and decide who you want to do the work, and who you want to rely on for warranty work it need be. That to me is as big a decision as what product. Every one will have a bad every know and then, you just need to make sure that it will be taken care of if the need be!!! Like I said before research installers and products. Search this website, I did and found some great info!!!!

Difference of opinion I guess, his truck is either 235HP or 250HP, it should be able to take a little more without killing the trans, especially if driven carefully, no lugging in OD, easy launch from stop, keep it above 2000rpm when towing, ect. .

03 47re

My 03 has a 47RE I tow a 9000# boat 75k miles no problems, had a 2nd gen 00 sold to my friend at 124k now has 145k same at no problems, my trans guy said never leave it in the auto overdrive mode, don't put od on till after 55 or 60 mph. If it ain't broken don't fix it
