Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission Upgrade?

I was wondering if anyone knows if the 48RE automatic out of a 2003 HO will fit in a 2002 or earlier. If so, maybe it would provide another avenue of solutions to the current 47RE weaknesses as the 48RE is supposed to be capable of handling a H. O. with additional features such as 2nd. gear lock-up, improved oiling, etc. If so, it should be able to handle up to a mildly bombed pre-2003.

You can build your current trans to do all the above mentioned for less than what it would cost to purchase a new 48Re and after that you will still have a better than 48Re trans when finished. Buying a new 48Re you still have just a stock trans.
