Perfect Truck?

Drag racing a truck that isn't even in the 10's isn't that hard. I can sorta see where a nice auto comes in at the 10 second mark. But for those of you complaining about it in your 15 second truck. ohh I'll stop there.

Why complain?? Because that 15 second 5spd/6spd truck could be a 14 second auto ;)

Automatics will outlast a stick shift if they are properly maintained !

Even my wife's new atv has an automatic 3 speed and its electronic.

By the way how old is 360? He can spell pretty good so I'm guessing 11 maybe?

i and biased towards a stick because the autos ive drivin were all stock on stock rigs. i considered an auto of racing purposes but i cant stand the way they drive on the street. im thinking a 5spd auto might be a little more to my liking. ive had this rig 2 years and have put 50k on it. i havent even made it on a drag strip yet. not much use for an auto here.

adjustable power is for those that dont know how to drive with lots of torque in the snow. why would you want to turn it down anyways? :-laf

I won't argue that automatics have their advantages and can be very stout. BUT:

- Manuals are more fun.

- *NO* automatic transmission knows what driving conditions are going to be. They simply react to the current situation.

To each his own.

I kinda like mine when one of those little japscrapers pulls up to the light with a 3 foot bumblebee muffler on it and wants to pick on a little 6 cyl cummins in a 8000 lb truck yeehaaa!

Hi I'm 18 thank you very much.

That explains alot. He even started another post to keep this crap going. :-{} Look man it is just a matter of opinion as to whether or not you want an auto or stick and as far as electronics go they are here to stay like it or not. If you don't like them keep buying old trucks and fixing them up. Who knows you might end up with better luck with a truck than those of us that are buying new ones but there is no need to be this way. ;)

i agree with mike, we all love/hate our trucks for the same reasons :{ , so lets stop bashing each other and get back to hating fords because they suck sooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!! :-laf

how about a manual valve body auto, get the best of both worlds, no clutch to hold in traffic and still get to shift and chirp the tires or short shift and smoke out the car next to you,

I was just joking geez, I know and agree that fords suck I looked under the hood of one and I cant imagine how you would even go about replacing an injector or even the turbo. Its hard to inagine even doing an oil change. That Hydraulic Electronic Injection system is over engineered and stupidly complicated, and is prone to leaks. I swear some of these engineers are on crack that engineer these electronic night mares. At least the dura crap is HPCR, and you dont hear of too many of them having problems like the ford 6 noooooooooo do. And I agree that a cummins is a cummins allthough the VP-44 fuel system should be more reliable than it is and I'm pretty shure thats why cummins went over to the HPCR and as much as I hate electronics I love that system for its simplicity, just a high pressure fuel pump and the injectors, no VP-44 with solenoids and electronics that wear out pre-maturly. And I only started this because I wanted to see what people would say about different transmissions and the like. I may be 18 but I can bet I know more about diesel engines than half the guys on here. In my free time in between having fun with friends I read books and online about diesel engines, and then work on my truck and gain further knowledge. AT LEAST I DONT HAVE TO BRING MY DAMN TRUCK TO A SHOP AND HAVE THEM WORK ON IT!!! I work on my own truck and no one else touches it. Sorry for the long post but some people (mike) get me upset.

I've driven 4+2, 5+2, 8 speed, and 4+3 transmissions in straight trucks, 9's, 10's, and 13's in class 8 trucks at 80000#'s +. It feels pretty good getting 80000#'s up to speed with a 1450 t/q-460 hp N14 with a 13 trans.

It's been a while since I've drove a class 8 truck. I only did it part time and I still kind of miss it.

I don't regret getting a 48RE, and I think electronics have helped diesel engines become more mainstream.

Just my opinion, and you all know what they say about opinions... :-laf

Tractor Trailers have manual transmissions... ... ... ... ... .....

Do your research before spoutin about how much you read and think you know. More and more otr (over the road ) trucks are coming with full auto Allisons or Eaton Auto shifts which is a manual transmission with a push button control like an allison auto but has a clutch pedal for stopping and starting only. or the older super 10 speed that is a manual but cumputer automatically splits ranges in 9th and 10th gear.

As someone posted earlier the manual transmission will soon be history in all newer vehicles.

Almost all heavy equipment is an automatic based drive train also (somewhat).

hydrostatic trans. My dad's Ford 1320 tractor has one. It's circa 1994 now I think. If I still lived in Michigan, I would of figured out a way to fit a little turbo to that little 3 banger :) And yeah, if you lug it, it rolls lots of coal :)

autos do really suck

how does it feel to know with your automatic trannys you are loosing a lot of power and how does it feel when you are pulling a 1000 lbs tin can fishing boat up a slight hill on a 90 degree day and burn it up.

There is no power loss in lockup. Just as solid as your clutch. I worked in a driveline transmission shop for a few years and have seen WAY MORE Manual transmission trucks come in with input shaft gears melted off and synchros welded together and exploded clutches and all this on stone cold stock pickups than I have seen autos burned up. Moral of the story best stated by Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry

" Mans got to know his limitations"

Or your vehicles for that matter.
