Wiring Issue

Baldwin BF-7772 is a replacement for the Mopar SDFK Filter.

Hi , a friend has a 2008 with a 6.7 and an automatic . She put it into a Chrysler dealer for some minor work not related to the transmission , when it came out it wouldn't shift out of first . The dealer said it never did anything and then ended up replacing almost everything but the transmission at her expense , all sensors replaced , a new wiring harness and tipm , changed the fluid and filter a couple of times etc etc . The dealer has charged her a small fortune and they are only guessing every time it goes in , lets try this next or this . She doesnt want to put it in anymore if they are only guessing and I'm about 350 miles away . Any suggestions ?

Is she getting any faults / check engine light? Does the dash show "D" or "1"?
Hi TransEngineer , sorry for the later reply . I never got any notification that anybody replied , when the Chrysler dealer put it in the garage they broke the steering column and blamed her because of her oversized tires . At her expense they replaced the column and now it shows nothing at the indicator , the only light on the dash is the engine light itself . She doesnt know how to pull the engine codes out herself

She could ask the dealer what codes it has.
Also, I would ask her: When you say it won't shift out of 1st, is it actually in 1st gear, or is it stuck in 4th gear? Does it feel normal launching from a stop, or does it feel really sluggish? If it launches normally, does it then hang in 1st gear (so you can go like up to 20 mph but no faster), or does it slip (neutral out) after 10 feet or so?

She has no idea what codes the dealer found and because they screwed her over , their not on speaking terms anymore . She lives a couple hundred miles from this , the nearest dealer . It stays in first gear , lots of power taking off and doesnt jump into neutral

Can she try a Wide-Open-Throttle acceleration and see if it shifts (or hits the rev limiter and hangs there)? Maybe the TCM is just getting a wacky throttle reading (thinks it's at WOT all the time) and she just hasn't gotten it up to the (WOT) shift point yet. If it does shift at WOT, then the problem is the throttle signal, not the trans.

My other thought would still be that her Electronic Range Select (ERS) switch is stuck in the (-) position (holding it in 1st). Hard to tell if she has no PRNDL display! But a dealer can monitor "ERS Gear" with their scan tool. If ERS Gear is "1", then that's the problem. ERS Gear should be 6 (or 7) when she's in normal Drive.

She said she can put her foot right to the floor and it will not shift out of first

Then they need to check whether ERS Gear is "1" whenever she's in Drive. If so, that's why it's not shifting (and it's probably because the ERS [-] switch is stuck).
