Im a new member to this forum, I am a active member of Corvette forum and had great luck over there. So I have a 2002 and the transmission is on its way out. I had a 99 and went thruogh 5 transmissions so I am familar with the symptoms. I dont want to go stock as I tow 5500lbs trailer on a regular basis and plow for extended periods. Can any one point me in a direction? was checking out BD but they seem a little pricey and quite far for shipping. I saw Perfomance Automotive Trans Center (PATC) I never heard of them any one know them? What parts to order to fix the trans once and for all? Thanks in advance sorry for the long post!

Welcome!

Around here Transmission threads can be a warzone! So... . The big names around here are:

Goerend Brothers

DTT

ATS

Suncoast

I have had 2 of the 4. I recommend Goerend Brothers. ( www.gbtransmissions.com) The best bang for the buck, with the best warranty hands down.

of all the trannies i have installed for customers i have had the least problems with suncoast, (on wade's personal truck) ive been through 4 nadp's. so i would say suncoast

I have been thru 2 NADP transmission's and fixing to go thru another :--) great guys to deal with but the transmission's just aren't holding up for me.

NGM how many transmissions have you installed for customers ?? Just wondering since you had to take Wade's truck to LLoyd for some repairs. Thanks Steve B.

have never taken wade's truck to lloyd for any repairs. lloyd was nice enough to let us use his shop to try and install a make shift freeze plug for a dyno event. just to clear things up i am the only one who touches his truck other than him. we do not go elsewhere for anything. but if i were to it would be lloyds. he know his stuff too. (here ya go lloyd free plug) :-laf

on the trannies i have installed alot. some suncoast some nadp. and alot of just suncoast converters and valve body's.

Maybe thats why Wade has so many problems.

i don't think so. i have had not one problem with mine. and we just made a 12. 60 pass with his on one box and a trans that didn't go into second. we are very close to having this ironed out.

but thanks for the confidence ;)

Not sure what the Corvette forums have to do with the TDR, but to each there own.

You say you had 5 transmissions go out in your 99, yet you only pull a modest load of 5500lbs and plow. I would think that even the slowest of individuals would recognize the need for something drastic after say the second transmission, but that's just me. Have you ever considered the use of an auxiliary transmission oil cooler??? Being that heat is the primary reason for automatic transmission failure, I would say it's a good bet you could benefit from the installation of one of these little beauties.

Goerend Brothers make a very good trans also. we have talked to dave many times he is a great guy to do business with.

well the fastest trucks are mostly using suncoast, most of the towers are suncoast or gb, have heard too many complanints with the ats, bd, and dtt trannies. warranty wise suncoast and gb have been realy realiable from what ive seen gb has the best warranty 100k on the convertor and transmission

I had a DTT in my 97 had a problem about 30000 miles was close to dealer in Denver (THANKS LAZER BOB) he had me on the road the next day, some will say next day so what I am talking R and R trans nobody could do any better when my 06 needs one it will be DTT all the way I sold 97 with225000 on the DTT trans still running strong I tow around 10000lbs 90% of my miles are with a trailer RANDY

All of the companies make a good product. i went with Suncoast because they are close, my installer is close and most of the crowd I run with runs them. Best $$ my wife ever let me spend.....

Corvette Forum have nothing to do with TDR, just a comparision. A transmission that craps out a 2k right off the lot, would not bennfit from a aux cooler! Thanks good tip! The problem related is at 3rd and OD seems to come right out of OD and not shift back up from 3rd. Just looking for a reasonably priced transmission or a good source for internal parts. If I could get a better idea of how many clutches plates to use, I would have a local transmission guy build it! shipping has got to be expensive compared to parts.

Had mine shipped from GB to my installer. Changed it out and put old one back in plastic crate, called trucking company and it was gone. Freight was prearranged by Dave, Iowa to Pa,and back about 400. 00 a few years back. Best person I have ever dealt with in the auto industry. Transmission is living daily with 350 rwhp with some more planned in the future. I also had gone thru 2 dodge rebuilds under warranty and wanted to do it only one more time. I think I was successful. It drives better than new and you can't beat the warranty.

I have tried a search on that with not much luck. So yes or no? Im not trying to cut coners, but money on shipping a transmission versus the parts and have a local do it is what I an contemplating? I have never heard of PATC, as of the beging of this thread I only knew of one outsource and they seemed a little on the high priced side. Expensive doesnt always = best product!
