Just came back from a 250 mile trip pulling my 5th. wheel trailer. within 12 miles from home the trans. felt it went into neutrial between drive and overdrive. Anyone have any input? truck is a 2001 with 55,000 miles.

Brian,

Do you mean it feels like it's slipping when shifting into or out of overdrive, but it does properly go into overdrive?

Does it happen every time or did it just happen once?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Has the transmission fluid and filter been replaced?

Best regards,

John L.

It felt just like the trans. was shifted to neutrial, but the engine didn,t rev up. and it only happened twice. I thought it seemed like the trans. was slipping alittle. fluid level is ok and was serviced about 10,000 miles ago.

Brian,

Sounds like it was slipping then.

If it only happened twice and doesn't do it consistently, it's probably going to be hard to nail down the cause. The best course of action might be to see if you can duplicate it by manually turning the OD on and off, etc.

It could be the 3-4 gear shift valve, the timing valve, or the accumulator malfunctioning internally.

Best regards,

John L.
