I have a stock '96 with the 47RE with only the line pressure jacked up. I see the newer 24V CTD have around 235hp and still use the 47RE trans. Has Dodge made some upgrades in the trans to accept the increase in horsepower or have they found the trans can handle more than originally thought? I would like to move my horsepower up some (200-230) if I thought the trans would take it. Any opinions here? Obviously the auto has health problems.

I think all they did was update a program for the ECM so it reduces HP and Torque before the shifts, to reduce stress in the transmission. Mine is a 2000 215hp 420 lbs, like I said just programing changes from everything I have read.

47RE

The 47RE can handle the higher horsepower for a while if it is not worked too hard. Key words:for a while! With a better conv. (DTT:D ) and the trans upgrades it will handle it,no problem. With the upgrades and synthetic fluid, you will be good to go for a long time. I realize there are other converters out there, just having installed most of them at one time or another, I prefer DTT. I took a milled stator converter(not going to mention brand) that I had in my truck with less than 1k on it out to install a DTT when I road tested the first truck I installed one in. MHO.

Thanks for the replies, I have seen where the milled stators achieve the lower stall at the expense of higher RPM fluid coupling. The milled stator seems to have been popular, I guess it was cheaper to do then to redesign/manufacture a new one.
