I am wondering how you new dodge owners like your trannys? I have a 94, in which I have had the transmission rebuilt twice and now sounds like it may be going again. I pull two trailers. One dump trailer which at times can be about 12000 lbs and then an enclosed tool trailer only about 7-8000lbs. I also plow snow. I work the truck but I do not beat on it. I am very dissapointed with this transmission. I spent a lot of money on it. much to my dismay I think it is time to get a new one. I would like to stay with the auto, but not if I'm only going to blow the transmission once a year.

You really need to talk with Diesel Transmission Technologies (DTT) and/or ATS and get yours fixed right. These are the two most popular options to beef-up the auto's. The (TDR) group is pretty split between them so a comparison usually turns into an ugly debate. We don't need that here, but you do need to know, there are some good options which should easily handle the loads you're giving it.



To answer your question, until real recently, the auto is still the same one they've been using for quite a few years. This auto has not been available with the High Output engine, as it still can't handle the power.



However, Dodge has a new auto transmission (the 48RE) which is claimed to handle the H. O. power (& exhaust brakes). I know there are some of these combos on order, but I'm don't think they've hit the streets yet. Hopefully this will be a good way for people to have decent power in an auto, without dropping a bunch of money for the DTT/ATS modifications.



IMHO, the best thing to do is go manual. I sold my old auto since the price for the necessary upgrades came close to the upgrade in trucks.



Do some searches (especially DTT & ATS) and you should have more than enough information at your finger-tips. Good Luck!

I had my transmission rebuilt by guy that specializes in all dodge performance. I won't mention his name now. I want to see how he handles this new transmission problem before I trash him. However, thank you for the info. After all the problems I'm a little gun shy about fixing it again. I thought about the manual trans, but with my job I put on a lot of miles and often in rush hour traffic, stop and go. Thats tough on a clutch. I just wanted to see what the opinion was with some that own and new dodge with the auto. Thanks
