greetings, all

the other day i was looking through some books and was wondering ... .

what is the feasibility of one of the following happening:

1) transplanting cummins running gear into a power wagon (ca. '47)

or

2) transplanting a power wagon body onto cummins frame/running gear...

just thinking... . anyone know if it is possible? anyone know of it ever being done?

thanks in advance.

If you have the time and (more importantly) the money anything can be done. Would it be cost effective? Probably not. Would it be super cool? Definately!!! I have helped restore a 46 to original and I would think that everything but the transmission would hold a Cummins. I would look into shoehorning the Cummins into the PW if you could live with a top speed of about 50 MPH.

Putting the Cummins into the 47 PW wouldn't be a good as putting the 47 PW body on a late model chassis & engine. With the engine switch, you are still using '47 brakes, steering, and gearing. With the late model chassis/egine, all the engineering has been done and the gearing is right and you'll have decent brakes. I know people who have done it both ways with a varied of old trucks, and the happiest seem to be those who used the late model frame, etc. Ultimately, it is up to you and what you want the truck to do. Just my $02 worth.

The same guy that restored the original had a 48 on a mid seventies ford 3/4 ton frame that was a daily driver, but you lose a lot of the old truck. Last I heard he had 5 of them in various stages.

Go see dodgepowerwagon.com. This question has come up on that site. I think the 6B is to long without some firewall mods, but the 4B might fit just fine. Another issue to consider is sound insulation.
