Can anyone tell me the correct procedure for programming the keys for my '06? I am following the instructions in my owners manual, but its just not working like its supposed to. I have three new keys that are cut, and I managed (somehow) to get one of them programmed, but I can't get the other two. The first one was just dumb luck and I don't remember what steps I took to get it to work. TIA, Jim

Jim I'm not sure about your dodge but I have to take the wife's ford in tomorrow to the dealer to have her key reprogrammed. They told me they put in a computer to do it.

I had the same problem. I followed the instructions titled "Customer Key Programming" on p. 14 in the 2006 owner's manual and, as I recall, when I got to step 2 where the security light is supposed to flash, it didn't happen. I still went thru the steps and finally got one key to program properly. The instructions state that you can only program up to 6 additional keys. I wonder if unsuccessful attempts count against that number?

Worth doing.

I followed the manual, it worked. It's a little different than Jeep programming, you need to to follow the Ram's manual, the Jeep procedure doesn't include the last step.

If you lose a key (and have only one key) you need to see the dealer. The dealer wants about $150 for a spare key. After that, spare transponder keys are about $12 on eBay and you can program them yourself. Home Depot will

cut the transponder key blank to match your key. They did 3 keys for me for free (2 for my '10 Jeep, 1 for my Dodge Ram).

I post this because I bought an '08 Jeep for my daughter that came with ONE key. I didn't know/didn't think about the second key costing a fortune. Hopefully the dealer will program my eBay key for $50 instead of trying to sell me their key for $100 + $50 programming.

Info for programming the '06 is on pg 14 in the manual.

It took me about 15 tries to get mine to program, but after re-reading the instructions for the third time, I finally got it to work. Make sure you know which light to look for on the dash and follow the instructions exactly, as it doesn't have any room for error. Also, after programming one key, you have to start all over to program the second (or third) key. No shortcuts.

One little nitpick: you're not actually programming the key. What's happening is you're telling the computer on the truck to remember and allow the code from the third key. The reason you need two good keys is to keep some valet parking person from creating a key based on one good key, and thus being able to steal your truck later.
