Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Transter case question

I have a leak and a lot of slop from the front output shaft of the transfer case on my 97 dogde 4x4 dually. It has a 241 DHD transfer case with 272 ratio bolted up to an auto-transmission. My question is a friend of mine has a 241DHD with a 272 ratio bolted to NV5600 out of a 2002 will the splines match up to my drive shafts and the auto-trans? It looks like the tail shaft housing may need to be changed. Is this a hard job to break lose from the transmission while it's in the truck I have 208000 miles on mine? Anybody done this kind of change out before give me some feed back? THANKS DEAN
