riovett:

I have a 98-24 valve with A/T. I installed the Edge EZ box last year and when I pulled my 5th wheel trailer (11,000# ) to Mich this spring I started having T/C slippage. Monday, the trammy man pulled trammy and found metal shavings in the pan and the pump gear worn. as well and some washers. The converter was blue in color due to heat I have a temperture gauge for the trammy but it never showed anything over 140 degrees. If it was my truck, I would pull the EZ box and check the pan for metal shavings. I did replace the converter with a Sun Coast.

BTiner, I was wondering who did your transmission work. Been looking for a good transmission guy closer to home. So far I have found only one & he is close to u & about 2. 5 hrs. from me (inarush76). Sounds like he is a good one, just lookin for one closer to the Abilene - Wichita Falls area.

There are a couple things that could be going on here. First, your truck may be included in the TSB 18-02-99 which addresses converter clutch hunting. It could be the APPS (accelerator pedal position sensor) causing a hunt, or just the additional horsepower along with the load is just too much for your stock trans or converter. Since it did this only with a load it well could be the latter. If you are not ready to have the trans and converter upgraded (to DTT;) ), then consider having the trans serviced after checking pressure and while pan is off, raising pressure a bit. This may help, but is only a temporary aid. If I can answer any other questions, e-mail me and I'll try to help.

If you plan on running the EZ with a stock converter, while running under 55mph load or no load do not use overdrive.

And make sure to change your ATF3 every 12k miles.

I ran with a stock converter until about 2 months ago, the stock converter held with the EZ and did not discolor, but when my 275 injectors were installed, then the shifting became questionable.

I would suggest if your going to tow alot, an aftermarket torque converter that will hold extra power and weight.

There are several good ones out there.

The transmisson man I used is in Haslet,tx which is about 20 niles north of Ft Worth. He has over 40 years experience working with transmissons and retired as Service Mgr. for a Chev. dealer in Ft Worth. He has a shop at his house. You can,t go wrong if you let James Northum do your work. The only reason I didn,t use James and that is I wanted a steel billet cover converter. DTT doesn,t make one.

Is your temp probe in the pan or outline to the cooler? If it was in the out line, then you probe or gauge is no good. If in the pan, I can understand why it didn't show much of a temp change. My probe is in the out line and my gauge shows big movements especially when towing. You will see the gauge go as high as 260* up a slow speed hill, rapidly drop to 180* going down and around 140-160* normal driving on the level at speeds 50-60 mph. Others may feel differently and this is purely my opinion, but I feel a probe placed in the pan is not very helpful.

Same deal wComp Box

I just recently posted a thread of about the same mystery hunting for OD a week or two ago.

I was experiencing this whether pulling a load or not. Definitely pull the battery cables while pulling the box. I didn't first time, got a Check Engine light. Left the cable disconnected for an hour or so, cycled the key on and off three to four times rapidly. Read something about this on tdr.

This cleared the problem somehow.

Anyway while the box was off the transmission still was hunting for OD. After I pulled the cables, left them off and then cycled the keys it has cleared the problem for a week now.

I will be reconnecting the Comp box tomorrow and will post results on my original thread, consistency and all.

Anyway my transmission is not stock. I had a vb and tq installed by Goerend Bros. Loved it so far. It pulled non stop on vacation when this all started. This makes me believe it is computer, or throttle position sensor related. However now that I think about it must be comp. TPS would still be acting up if... ... ...

My box is a little older. Hope Edge are stand up people if it starts all over again. Listening Edge?????????

Anyway, hope this rambling helps somehow.

UNHOOKED BATTERY CABLES FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS LEFT THE BOX HOOKED UP I GOT THE EDGE EZ BOX NOT THE COMP ONE ANY WAY DROVE THE TRUCK THIS WEEKEND NO PROBLEMS. BEFORE IT WOULD ONLY SHIFT UP & DOWN IF I WERE PULLING A LOAD . IT SEEMS TO BE SHIFTING ALOT BETTER NOW . ANY WAY IAM GOING TO START LOOKING FOR A UP GRADE ANY SURRGESTIONS . LIKE JUST HAVE transmission REBUILT STOCK AND JUST HAVE A GOOD TORQUE CONVETER ADDED OR WHOLE WORKS . QUESTION 2 IF I TAKE GOOD CARE OF STOCK TRANY HOW MANY MILES SHOULD IT GO ITS GOT 50000 ON IT NOW . QUESTION 3 ON THESE PICK UP PUMPS I CHANG MY FUEL FILTER ABOUT EVERY 10000 MILE IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT WHEN I CHANGED THE FILTER IF WAS NOT WORKING THAT IT WOULD NOT START RIGHT OR WRONG I KNOW THAT IT MIGHT NOT HAVE THE RIGHT PRESSURE . PLEAS GIVE SOME FEED BACK THANKS
