I am from central California. I will be traveling through Holbrook. I want to take 180 South to Deming and on to Las Cruces. A distance of 347 miles. I-40 to I-25 South is 461 miles. Is 180 a good route for R Vs at Christmas time?
It's been about a year since I've been on it, but it's a really pretty drive. It does go through some twisty mountain sections, and the area between Show Low and Silver City is known to accumulate some snowfall (El Nino this year, don't forget ). I wouldn't hesitate to drive an RV through it, although if the weather was bad, I'de keep the I40-I25 option open. Chances are the roads between Holbrook and Grants would be slick, But after that, NORMALLY the roads are clear. Flagstaff also has a tendency to get rather nasty, too. Have fun, hope this helps.
180 is a good road for RVs, but the elevation climbs to 8000 feet at Alpine. Snow is a definite possibility. If you want to avoid the cold weather take I-10.
