YUP - lots of wilderness campgrounds out here in eastern Oregon - with the usual assortment of 2 and 4-legged predators and troublemakers... I always have a Browning . 32 with me in the truck, and often also carry a Makarov 9mm and a Mossberg 500 12 ga. riot gun in the RV - depending on where we're headed and for how long...



And yeah, I have a CC permit as well...



You usually DON'T need to actually fire one - just racking a round into the chamber of the 12 gauge usually takes the steam out of the most aggressive bad guy... :-laf



But believe me, I'd drop a bad guy in an instant if need be - and never blink an eye...

jray it's a good idea to have your firearms with you when you go camping. I'd keep the shotgun in the Sierra's and the the desert. The shotgun with propper ammunition is much more effective for all things that go bump in the night.



If I were going to take the rifle I'd take it in the dez too.

For the guy's in Calif what does it take to get a CCW? permit I carry my 45 with me when I am on the road I know shouldn't but when I am out in the middle of knowwhere that is my olny defence but I want to do it without going to Jail I wouldn't look right behind Bar's or wearing stripes lol

To get a Ca. CHL you have to live here, first of all. We have NO reciprocity with any other state. After living here, you need to be in a county where the Sherriff is gun friendly. Licenses are "may issue" not "shall issue". It's totally at the discretion of the county LE officer. I live in San diego county. NO-ONE here gets a license to carry without being connected. The head Sherriff, Bill Kolender, was once a member of the board of Handgun Control Inc. There is a good chance he will be replaced by a MUCH better guy in Nov. If you live in San Diego, L. A. , San Fransicko, and a few other areas forget it. In a couple years I'm going to remedy the situation (and several others) by retiring to AZ.



P. S. FWIW; If you travel through Ca. with handguns they are supposed to be unloaded and in a Locked METAL case. That means the magazine for a semi-auto cannot be inside the case with the gun; that is considered "loaded"

to the mentally challenged people who write laws here.

Actually... . a gun bag that is locked is fine. Magazines can be loaded just not in 'contact' withe the firearm. Any compartment in the vehicle is fine as long as the firearm is locked in it's own 'case' in said compartment. Ammo can be with the gun but not in contact with it. CCW's are quite 'easy' to get if you live in 'American' Counties. I am a CCW Instructor and I am 'quite' busy.

I don't go camping or into the National Forest for recreational purposes without carrying a concealed handgun. I have a permit to do so. No one needs to know I have it unless the situation arises where it is needed. The weapon is never out of my sight. A weapon locked/stored in a vehicle or RV is an open invitation to theft or having it used against you. Likewise, a stored weapon my not be readily available if it is needed. I target practice at a designated rifle/pistol range. I'm currently retired, and spent a 30 year career dealing with criminals and the victims of crime. I have no intention of setting myself up as a victim. Unfortunately, these are the times we live in.

I have a Sig p220 for a CCW, And take my Browning Hi-Power with me when Camping. Need to get a shotgun to take camping and home defence, but with the price of everything going up but my wage things are getting tighter and tighter.

Here in Sacramento there are about a thousand ccw permits issued. I know a retired DA who moved to another city because he couldn't get a permit here.



I'll usually carry when I'm camping. I have left home in a hurry and forgot, and I dont sweat it if I'm not armed.



I also worry sometimes when I hear people shooting. Those idiots who shoot up road signs, buildings and whatever scare the crap out of me.



When I shoot I travel well away from any inhabited areas. Even if its safe I don't think people should have to listen to me shooting. I always make sure the background is safe, nothing to riccochet off of etc. Clean up after myself.

Everytime I take the family out on a camping trip I take a couple of firearms. If it's desert dirtbike type camping I bring an Ithaca M37 shotgun (20" barrel) and a Beretta 92F. (2-3 day trips)



When camping in the High Sierra's I bring the above 2 and usually a Ruger mini 14. (several week long trips)



Does anyone else carry multiple weapons when camping?

The short answer is yes. I have a rifle rack built into the closet of the travel trailer. I carry a 12 ga double bbl shotgun, a 10-22, and then a lever action rifle for what ever handgun I have with me. Usually my Ruger Police/Security 6. I also carry a 45-22 for when I can find a place that has a range to plink with.



I've got a Marlin Camp 9 Carbine that uses the same magazines that the 59 series smiths, (or 469 mini gun smith) uses.

Its about impossible to get a permit here in the city of hippies and liberals... . santa cruz. but we carry when we go camping too. We had to use it once when we came across a deer missing its back half struggling to get up in the middle of a mountain road. We pulled it aside and "put it down".

Anybody recall that nut case in Ca just outside Yosemite that klilled three unarmed women a few years ago? Don't say it can't happen here. I don't consider myself a gun nut, but I do carry a Glock 9mm and a Ruger Mini 14 in my rig, just in case "lightning does strike" if you know what I mean. Better to be prepared than ... .....

A buddy of mine, used to give me crap about carrying while camping. He doesn't anymore though. In fact he's now applying for a CCW. Too many freaks walking around to not be armed IMHO.

If I'm Jeepin, I usually have an AR shorty and a pistol or two.
We go to our property on weekends and I'll take a shotgun or two as well as any assortment of pistols and rifles, I always carry a pistol.

I know some states say the gun has to be locker up and not loaded!!! Well a locked up gun is no good if you need it fast. . So I do not lock my guns up and they are loaded. life time ccw

When we go camping, we don't stay in campgrounds. For us, the farther away from people, the better. Our best vacation was 6 days way back in the Sawtooth mountains. Never saw another person all week.

We had with us a Mossberg 500 loaded with alternating slugs and 00 buck, a Ruger Super Blackhawk . 44Mag, and two . 45 ACP pistols. Paranoid?? Maybe. Safe?? Definately. Yes, my wife shoots a . 45 just as well as I do. We were ready for any 4 or 2 legged predators, but never needed it.

We have been camping 2 times previously when us having a gun, and the other person knowing we had a gun, made a lot of difference. Never had to fire it, just make its presence known.
