whiteknight, some of the clowns working for Canada Customs are no better. The worst ones on our side of the border are the young "Gals" (sorry ladies). As already stated, answer only the questions that they ask, be polite and look at them when they talk to you and when you reply. I cross the border fairly often and I have never had a problem.

A little sage advice from a Canadian, shut your truck off as soon as you get to the window, they hate to talk over the engine.

Oh yes, and do not mention Piers , that is a sure fire way to get strip searched (lol).

Have a good trip. I travel often to Canada, both East and Westr sides. If you drink soda, take it with you. Very expensive and smaller cans.

Use your plastic where possible, CC companies convert ant the dailey rate, and don't add any fees.

Enjoy the wonderful people that live in thnat beautiful country, and don't be surprised the first time you get gravy on your French Fries. .

USING PLASTIC IN CANADA !!

DID YOU KNOW THAT MOST CREDIT CARDS CHARGE YOU A FEE FOR TRANSACTIONS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES?

Call your credit card company and verify if you can make purchases without incurring additional fees.

Most cards charge as if it were a cash advance!!!!

Credit Card companies are modern Robber Barons!

One thing my wife and I have learned is to pay for things with a credit or "check" card while in the Great White North. That way, the dollars are automatically calculated into Cdn. at that days rate. Most of the time if you pay with U. S. dollars at the local stores they give you a lame rate. Other than that we have seen some very impressive senery up there, and yes, Canadians are very nice people for the most part. Have fun. Oh, by the way, we have never been charged any fees for doing this and being 70 miles from the boarder with a Canadian wife, we go there often.

Credit card fees

Check the mouse print that the credit card companies send you... or call them and ask what their policy is... .

If you are not being chaged a fee, then you are lucky as the majority of Credit Card Companies do.

My point is to know what those SOBs are doin' to us and going in aware. I have several cards and the ones that don't charge for a foreign exchange will be the ones I use in Canada... . A good exchange rate means nothing if your bank is charging you 3%!!

While on the subject of bashing banks, did you know that 'check cards' or debit cards don't give you any protection that a credit card does?

With a Credit Card by Federal Law you have 60 days to contest a charge and are only liable for the first $50 of unauthorized charges, while a debit card allows only 7 days for an investigation and you are liable for the entire amount!!!

Listen to Clark Howard on the radio or at http://www.clarkhoward.com

He is full of this type of consumer information!

Guess I'm just a cheap ol codger!

Purpose of visit: pleasure

Bringing any goods to leave: No

Have any firearms in your possession: No

One word answers leave little to the imagination of the border guard for embellishing.

I went to BC (British Columbia) last year in a NW Bombers Bombvoy to BD Dyno Days. About a &frac14 were pulled over for further investigation. All of them had toppers (caps, canopies, campers, etc. ) or NRA decals which made answers 2 & 3 very questionable.

I use plastic for major purchases and get some of that Queen of Canada money at a US Bank.

Never had a problem coming back into the US from the Canadian side. The Mexican border is bad for me and I got everything but the private searches in Miami coming back from the Caribbean.

Have a great time and make sure to purchase fuel at a truck stop

Carry no weapons or ammo. And no bear spray. As a CCW holder I am grilled about weapons. You can bet the Canandian computer knows if you have a CCW. If you are going to take a weapon into Canada for hunting the Canadians have a new fee structure. Diesel is plentiful, measurements are in the metric system. The exchange rate varies from store to store. Use your plastic or exchange at the bank. Watch your speed. It takes a bit to get used to the kilometers an hour. Have a great trip. You can always keep on traveling and visit your friends in Alaska. The King Salmon have returned home, and the steaks are ready to grill.

"If you are going to take a weapon into Canada for hunting the Canadians"?? I didn't know there was a season on them?:D :D :D

Guns & Canada

Have carried guns in the past (no pistols) to/from Alaska thru Canada. As of this year you have to have a safety course (temp or permanent) that you have to take IN Canada. Additionally, in the past if you showed up at the border with certain guns they could just turn you back... . They ARE NOW DIRECTED TO CONFISCATE!!!!
