I took the truck in today for a myriad of mostly small fixes, but one of my complaints was hard shifting on the 6 speed. Much to my surprise, the dealer ordered a NEW transmission. I also had the 18-019-01 flash (high idle) done AND enabled. Was going to have the exhaust manifold bolt keepers installed, but not in stock. They are ordering though w/o any question. They also ordered a new Central Timer Module (TSB 08-26-00???) for my alarm problem where the alarm will not shut off until you go over 20 MPH. I had 7 items on the list, one of which was not warranty, and they at least gave the right answers on the first shot. Hopefully next week when a boat load of parts comes in, I will have another positive report.



It was a relief not to have to fight over warranty items.

Shelby, thank you for sharing the "positive" side of things. A bran new transmission? WOW!!! I know that there are a lot of good/positive stories out there and I keep those in mind when I am reading this forum. Thanks again.
 
6 Speed Problem

The shifting complaint was pretty much the same as others have mentioned. Hard to get in 1st-4th, especially on downshifts, worse when cold. Up shifts to 3rd quite often had a slight clash. Downshifts were helped a bunch by double clutching.



To be quite honest, I figured they were going to tell me it was normal, but I think the dealers are aware that some (not all) six speeds have these symptoms. They drove the truck 0. 1 miles all day, so I guess they took my word for it. NEW transmission on order.

Shelby, who is the dealer?, I have a friend who after being treated like garbage with the 5 Star dealer ???? here in Klamth Falls took his rig to Bend and was treated out standing. Jack

My dealer is TS&S, the only dealer within 100+ miles. They have 3 stores locally, but the main store is in Bend. I have had some mixed results before, but the last two visits including yesterday have been outstanding. If all the parts replacement next week works out, I think they will make my "A" list :)

Is there anything on the work order that might help me my dealer to do something about my transmission? Some sort of code or something?

I don't think there is a code, but I will look. One thing I did before I went in is write a sentence or two about each of my items. They just attached to repair order, no translation that way. I can e-mail my exact words if you think that will help. Like I said, I think they just took my word and ordered a new 6 speed. They only put 0. 1 miles on the truck, probably just parking it on the lot.

I'd really appreciate your descriptions of the transmission problems. The tech drove my truck and stated it shifts like it's supposed to and said something about the gates being narrow to the service writer. I have not spoken to the tech directly. It's funny you'd think if it was narrow gatest and I can't shift then the problem would be present in all gears. Not 2-3, 3-4.....

Follow UP

Well, I took the truck in yesterday and picked it up today. New transmission is in, exhaust bolt retaining straps are on, new central timer module is installed and quad doors are adjusted, AGAIN. All was covered by warrenty. I also paid to have the front driveline slip joint dust boot replaced, I had torn it somehow.



Jurry is still out on the transmission. So far with about 2 miles on it, it is shifting way harder than the old one. That is not what I expected, but maybe it is just the difference between new and "old". The weakest ink is better than the strongest memory, so maybe I don't remember a year ago that well :)



Anyway, unless this new box loosens up a lot, I am not sure I gained much, at least yet :(
