Trial Memberships

Is there anyway TDR can offer like a 3 mth trial membership just long enough to make friends and get a mag... if so I personally feal we could gain alot of members once somebody stays for a while they seem to like to stick around.



I can understand that it would be a pain to set up ,,,but the ends would justify the means



Just a suggestion/question

Actually, I am working on that right now - <font size="+1">but it won't include any of the extra website features</font>. There's too much stuff on here that we've let people know that we won't let out to non-members to do that. Personal information in the travel companion for example. Ability for people to send PM's and emails for another. Basically they'll get a back copy of the mag and a list of what features they are missing out on on the website.

Not to offend anyone- but a trial membership is silly - $35 is peanuts- we let anyone lurk here for free- even use the classifieds- If lurking isn't enough to tickle your fancy, then go hang out at one of the "free" sites- You get what you pay for IMO.

I am glad you are choosing to go that route. It makes me feel good to know that you are protecting my personal information in that way. It is always appreciated.

If you go over to the other sites and see how some of the members are treated you would support this.



I was once a member of the free sites and I put up with alot of unfair treatment and smiled just to keep from getting in trouble . . after so long I couldnt take it and I got banned by saying

"I SEE YOUR ENFORCEING THE RULES EQUALLY"



Most members to these sites do a better job of moving on but I can see where there basically being poaked and proded as I search thier post ""hidden BTW"" . . they catch some flack and just move on because they dont want to lose the benifits of having the members avalible to them plus they have gained friends along the way ... with that said they still dont realze the added benifits that TDR has

I have browsed threw my old stomping ground and I see alot of skilled people I would love to have on TDR ... but for some reason alot of them have not made the jump ... even with the guest program... so I suggested adding something to make people really check us out I know for a fact they will be our new members and they may just help us out one of these days.



I have counted a few of my old buddies that have joined TDR since Ive been here , but there is still alot more Im trying to get over here also

I would think if you gave free trial membership, this site would be a troller's dream. Most trollers will not pay to play... . but give them a free shot at a pay site, then look out. As far as personal info... look how much there is in different threads all over, not just the TDR Companion... phone #s, directions to your house, family members' names.....

Exactly- trolls suck-they have torn up the Ford site- I pay my 35 bucks not to have to put up with that- (useless threads, drivel, etc)

They'll be getting a back issue of the magazine and basically an advertisement for the website letting them know what they would have access to if they join. Remember - the TDR is a business and they need to do marketing. That's what this is.

Right now there are something like 470 guests and 160 members on the board- Looks like we got em' on the hook, just need to get em' in the boat-



I guess you are suggesting a "click here for a free issue" deal on the front page?

I used to "troll" this site before I actually stepped up to the plate to buy my membership. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but I have to say I've gotten a return on my investment many times over.



Shouldn't have wasted my time trollin'.

Exactly - we're trying to find ways to convert some of those guests into members. We have 4 times as many guests viewing the forums as members.

I agree. And as previously stated, they can do enough on the site now to see if they want to join.

I don't think the site is hurting for either memberships or knowledgeable and helpful folks.

The "TDR Test Drive" will allow people to get 1 free copy of an old issue of the magazine so they can see what the magazine is all about. When they are signing up for that they will also see a splash screen telling them about what website features they could have access to IF they chose to subscribe to the magazine.

What change? There will be a link on the site much like the current TDR Magazine->Purpose page that will have a form people can fill out their information to get a sample copy sent to them - one per address. There's no change.

A free mag would probably do as much as anything to help bring many of the non members over as paying members but I'm not sure more freedom here will help bring them over. They have almost full use of the site now except for posting and can even list in the classifieds, all for free. I think the mag is a good idea but personally I would cut back what they can view and do on here without being a member. Let em look at the classifieds but don't let em post on them. Let them see the discussion forums but block them from looking at the archives. (I'm not sure they can view the archives now?)
