Two sets of rules here on the TDR

theme song?

Personally, I wouldn't want all those guests messing up our group!! Slow steady growth is the best way, its been working out great. Its almost too big now, at 24,000.

Steve, do you remember when you knew almost everybody who posted?

I still remember when another diesel site opend up, and turned them loose on posting naughty pics-the site went into the toilet overnight, and nobody went there for information.

Somebody even posted,"Tech info? I go to TDR if I have a Diesel question, everybody knows that, this site is for naked pcitures. "

Oh, the value of that $35. 00!!!!! :D

I see where you guys are comming from ,,,,

We need a free TDR2 and a pay one where people who really care can go to

Maybe the TDR2 can have the same members and be the alter-ego Like SLEDPULLER will be driving a PSD and running QUAKERSTATE... ... . good behavior and we will let you in to TDR for $33

LOL

I LIKE TDR JUST THE WAY IT IS IM GLAD ITS NOT GOING TO CHANGE.

I admit the first time I came to TDR it looked like a bunch of serious Pros talking and no one was having Fun.

AS I read threw the new post it seamed like no one was talking about anything I wanted to know. BUT THEY WERE WERE THE REAL DEALS ,,,,Pullers,racers,dealers... ect.....

I quickly became an ARCHVE FREAK and Picked up on tons of information

Now alot of the threads interest me ... . the same ones that didnt before.

Thanks for paving the path

Its a smooth ride

Steve,

A free mag would probably do as much as anything to help bring many of the non members over as paying members but I'm not sure more freedom here will help bring them over. They have almost full use of the site now except for posting and can even list in the classifieds, all for free. I think the mag is a good idea but personally I would cut back what they can view and do on here without being a member. Let em look at the classifieds but don't let em post on them. Let them see the discussion forums but block them from looking at the archives. (I'm not sure they can view the archives now?)

The reason we let non-members post to the classifieds is actually for the members - that way you guys have more stuff available for purchase - that wasn't done for the non members. As far as what non-members can't do on the site there's a lot more than what you listed. Here's a list of features that only our members can access:

Forums

-------

User profiles

Sending PM's & Emails

Posting

Searching the forums (one of the biggest features IMO)

Viewing new posts since last time on

Ability to read the 911, Pay it forward, Other, Political, & Website forums

Viewing the member list

Other parts of the site

----------------------

Chat Room

Travel Companion

TSB's

Periodic parts or whole articles (like the recent Mega Cab intro - only members could view the videos)

I did think yesterday of possibly restricting how far back non-members can read posts. Maybe only 1 week back from the current date - further back than that they'd be told they had to be members. I'm going to bring that up to Robin to see what she thinks of it and we may implement that.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not against new members! Just think they need to pay to use the site like the rest of us. I also agree that some of the "other" sites are way out of control and there is a lot of bickering on some such as the Ford site. Sure don't want that over here! There is a lot of new members showing up in the first gen section and it is fun seeing some of the same questions asked that some of us asked when first getting started, and it is payback time for the things some of us have learned.

I think restricting access to anything past a week is a step in the right direction. Just get the interest up and then make em pay to see it all. When I first looked at the site it took me only a short time to decide to join. I could see there was lots of info available that I knew nothing about and wanted to learn more. Having not been a member from the beginning, it took a little time but I now have the complete volume of the magazines from #1 to present. Some great reading is there with a tremendous amount of information.

As far as the classifieds - when I look at a listing and see it is from a non member, I don't go any farther. I trust the fellow members but not a stranger. If I get screwed by another member, you can bet that everyone will know it. If a stranger sells something and short changes one of us, he can just disappear and no one will know where he went. I know not all non-members will do that but I feel the percentage is higher than what the members would be.

Well, I'm rambling so I'll quit for now! :)

I for one love the troll feature. It is what helped me decide for sure that I was getting the truck I did, instead of sticking with brand loyalty. Once I made my purchase, I knew it was time to get the real deal and almost immediately paid for a membership. I am totally behind Steve on this one. The information you guys provide is invaluable (not that I want membership dues raised), so the logical step for most trollers is to join if you really want the meat and potatoes of what this place has to offer. Still waiting on that first issue of the magazine. The way I hear everyone cheer its in-depth info, I am almost to the point of waiting at the post office to see if anyone in my area already gets it so I go to their house and ask to borrow it. Course only after they are finished with it. I could always leave my first born there for collateral (jk). Love the site. Love the feeling of belonging to something that matters. Most sites are just a place to digress and here, we seem to push progress. Positive or negative the posts may be, the information is still priceless. Thanks again TDR. Now how about getting the local postal man to run the current copy of the magazine from your doorstep to mine. Kidding again..... Like Christmas to my kids... ... Where's Santa?????
