All,

I never fail to learn something new on the TDR, whether happy with the knowledg or not. Soounds like I need a Class A non CDL drivers license. My 4500 is rated at 16,500 lbs GVWR and my 5er GVWR is 18,000 lbs. My total actual weight is 28,300 Lbs for both.

I'm off tomorrow and will go to the DPS office in Universal City to tell my story, tell them my weights and ask what I need to do. I'll tell y'all the outcome.

Wiredawg

Ron,

Beware the information you will get from a DPS office. The only reliable source of information on that subject is likely to be a senior officer in commercial enforcement. Ordinary patrol troopers won't know and their sargeant probably won't either. They know and use other parts of the law.

I was fortunate to be able to talk with a DPS lieutenant in commercial enforcement in January '05 before I traveled to Wakarusa, IN to go to work hauling for Horizon Transport. It was all new to me and fortunately he was sharp and a good teacher. He told me what the statutes said and explained some of the confusing aspects.

HBarlow,

AHobert,

You are apparently having as much difficulty reading and understanding my post as you are with reading and understanding the TX statutes.

Your attitude reflects anger, and a big chip on your shoulder so you can figure it out yourself. If and when you do, you'll see that I was telling you the true and accurate regulations and explaining it in ordinary lay terms.

HBarlow, I'm not sure what you mean by anger or chip on my shoulder but I can assure you that I will not lose any sleep wondering about it ! Also, In your response to RustyJC you essentially are making my case in interpreting the statutes regarding Class A licensing requirements.

To anyone else reading this thread, I apologize for hijacking this thread. My intentions are to purchase a new Ram now that the towing related numbers have been improved and I was sharing my experience in ascertaining the non-CDL licensing requirements of towing heavy loads and being in compliance with Texas Driver's licensing requirements.

Trucks are becoming more and more capable as time goes on and it's getting easier to run afoul of state mandated statutes if one is unaware.

Also, HBarlow, it's AHolbert,,,,,,,,,you forgot the l. Safe travels !
