Well i tried to remove the silencer ring today with no luck. . I used a screwdriver that was shaved by my grinder and still couldnt get under it on around it to pry it out. . ANyone have any other suggestions on getting it out??

Nick

The snap ring should have an angled cut on the ends. Start prying there carefully to get it started, then use another small screwdriver and keep working at it.

Once you get the snapring out the disc will come out easily.

That is, so long as they haven't changed the design of the ring that keeps it secured.

Here is a pic. Look at the lower left, 7 O'clock position in the pic. The snap ring has angled ends. One end will be easy to get a driver under and pry up enough to get another one under that.

Mine took me maybe 20 to 30 minutes to get it out trying to be careful and not stab the impeller blades using the two screwdrivers (one medium size and one pocket size flat blades). Now if for some reason where the snap ring ends meet is on the top side say 11 or 12 o'clock position I can see it being harder to remove.

I couldn't tell a difference power-wise. But my ears would be ringing after a long drive. The air filter you are using, with the stock box, will make a difference how loud the ringing is.

My current filter is an oiled-foam Amsoil. The stock paper filter will muffle a lot of the turbo inlet noise.

Stock airbox, with the snorkel between the box and fender removed, Amsoil or K&N filter, no silencer ring it will sound like a big rig turbo. :)

Try using a dental pick, the kind the dentist use to clean your teeth. They have a pointed and curved end. I used it on mine and it came out real quick.

SUCKS DON'T IT!!!! :D :D

I didn't think that I'd EVER get mine loose. Just be patient, keep using that ground down flathead screwdriver. You'll pop her out, and will LOVE the sound.

Good Luck Dude!

If the gap of the ring is hard to get to, take your ground screwdriver and you can spin it in the turbo to make it easier.

Take and get the ground driver in the ring groove so you can pry the ring down a bit to get the other screwdriver in, Then try to ease it out of the groove.

Best way is to start at the ends of the ring. It's in too tight so you won't be able to get behind or under it without first getting one end to pop out.

ANOTHER FAILED ATTEMPT

OH MAN... This is ticking me off now... I think the problem is that the ring ends are at around 10 oclock on the turbo and it is a real ******* to get to!!! I even got my screwdriver that is grinder to a fine line at the end... still no luck

I also tried to remove the baffles in the tube... looks very odd so i just left it alone.

I tried all of your guys tricks and none have worked... I havent tryed to ford kit or the dental pick... Im gonna look around for a dental pick and try to get it... I WANT TO HEAR MY TURBO TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL Oo. I MUST GET IT OUT :{ . BTW, Scotty 3 is coming and if that toque tube from afe will work with it that is coming to

Yes i tried. I was pushing on it pretty hard put i didnt want to push too hard because i didnt want to slip and hit the turbo blades :(

Hey XcX,

I know eveyone is telling you different things but I was in the same boat.

About 10 o'clock, put a small screwdriver under the right/clockwise side and used the side of the housing to gently pry the thing out as that side of the ring is beveled slightly. I too tried to get underneath it and pull it out with no luck, then all of a sudden it just started comming out when I got the driver more parallel to the ring. The "fins" in the tube, I just used a long sawsall blade and cut them in half and they fell out.

"Matt just wants to drive it, Nick. "

It would be nice to have a 3rd Gen around... without a salesman at my heels... . that way I could take a few measurements and drool some more.

I can't seem to find one on the lot with Nick's special seat-cover, though. (Nick, you do realize that we'll never stop kidding around with you and your GF, right?! :D )
