My transmission is still holding up OK but I tow an 11K+ fiver about 75 - 80% of my miles and wonder how much longer my totally stock 48RE will last.

There are several places in the LA valley that are excellent transmission builders. I would go there before EVER buying purple. Incidentally, that is a ATS transmisison not a DTT. Back in the day, opposite sides in mortal combat. :)

My bad. I said DTT and meant DPP, the company listing the ATS transmission. What I gather is that it's not such a good deal.
As for the LA area, I'm about 360 miles away, not exactly local even for CA. With nearly 100K on the clock and no plan to buy a new Ram, I'm just exploring my options.

In your location there are 2 really good shops I would talk with. Left Coast Diesel in Concord is in your back yeard. They use Goerend and Suncoast parts and build there I am pretty sure. Browns Diesel in Riverale also would be a place to check. Pretty sure they build locally unless they have gone away from it. A local shop you can talk to and work with if there are problems is a huge bonus.

The problem with buying ANY of these mail order units is you are ultimately responsible if there is something wrong. Commodity transmissions has not worked well for anyone, the best results have always been a builder that works with the suppliers to make sure you get quality customer service. Goo dluck with that over the phone and 1000 miles away, no incentive to believe you are not the problem and not too worried once they ahve your money. It is not one in particular but all in general have had reported issues with service after the fact.
