Triple Dog says I need re-flash

I just got the Bully Dog Triple Dog downloader. Before I hooked it up to the truck, I downloaded the latest version off the internet like the directions said to. After that, I hooked it up to the truck and the box told me that they highly recommend me having the truck flashed. It says there is a TSB for white smoke and fuel economy. It gives me the option of continuing w/o the re-flash but states that I may loose original settings, or something like that.

Has anyone downloaded without taking the truck to the dealer? If so, any problems? Also, if I do have to take the truck to the dealer and ask for this flash, what do I tell them I need and will they be suspicious that I am installing this program into the truck?

I would get any warrenty work or re-flashes done before installing the programer. I had my truck in for a leaking CP3 a few months ago and the dealership spent a week trying to find signs of a programmer so they could void my warrenty before doing any work. Since I had never ran a downloader type of programmer they could not find anything and covered the repair, but they sure looked for a way around it.



As far as the flash goes just tell the dealer that your fuel milage has been down and during the spring on cold mornings the truck would put a lot of white smoke out after starting it.

Exactly what Modified Diesel said. Explain to the service writer that your mileage seems to be low and that on cold mornings, you sometimes see a big cloud of white smoke upon start up. Ask if there is a reflash to address these problems (there is) and have it done. If your interested and if you have 48re vs 6 spd, you can also ask to have the "fast idle" feature enabled. This will let you up your idle on cold mornings via your criuse control system.



Definitely get all of this done before using a downloader. Even if you reload the stock program before going back to the dealer for warranty work, they will see evidence that you have been there and many (not all) dealers will void your engine warr on the spot. Some say you can fight and win but just be prepared for some grief.

Got the TSB flash 18-37-04. Truck took the download from Bully Dog with no problem. Truck is insane on the extreme setting. Smokes ALOT though. I can't wait to try the Crazy Larry download. GColman... FYI I contacted Bully Dog about the dealer being able to detect their product. They said if you use version 2. 2. 5 and later and remove the product properly before going to the dealer, they can not detect it. Made me feel much better. I use a dealership that I know the parts manager who is friends with the service manager. I don't expect any problems.

i downloaded it without the flash. you have nothing to worry about. i was on the phone with bullydog tech support at the time reinstalling my vin. he told me just go on without it.

What models need this reflash ? I read quite a bit about it , but really don't know if

it's something I need. I've got an 04. 5 that gets about 14 mpg . Is this reflash something I need to have done ?
