hello to all.

my Q. is, did somebody have any experience with triple lok torgue converter from atsdiesel. In the last turbodiesel register magazine is interesting article about this converter. Did somebody now how this tripleLok compare to DTT or BD converters and if is worth to pay this premium price for it ? $1370 is the price. http://216.235.147.117/ubb/confused.gif

M Evan, there are several TDR members with mega-horsepower trucks, 500-plus HP, running the ATS TripleLok(tm) with great success.

One in particular, in Eric McBride's("Stack'd 'n' Jack'd" in the TDR forums) truck, is running 12. 98 in the 1/4 mile, with a transmission I built while in training at ATS' facilities in Denver, Colorado.

You know if it can survive months of high HP, it can survive behind a milder tuned diesel engine.

At a recent diesel truck drag race, his transmission survived multiple passes down the strip. In addition, Eric drove his truck home 800 miles, after the races, while pulling a trailer over the mountains in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Check out www.atsdieselperformance. com for more information... their website features several prominent TDR members that are using their products.

M Evan, asking how ATS compares to DTT or Goerend or BD is just asking for a big ole' stinkin' P*****' match.

I just got my ATS and I LOVE IT! It is the best thing I have ever done to my truck. It leaps off the line now, if I want it to, or it will behave, all depends on whether I mash the pedal or not. In my opinion ATS has the best people AND the best engineering!

If I were you I would call Bill K. , and Don Ramer, and Goerend, ask them all questions. That is what I did. Also where are you located? ATS is in Denver, but their Torque Conv. & valve Body can be installed in any good shop.

Don's number is 800-949-6002

But I believe he is at May Madness, and I wish I were there too!

ats converter upgrade

Oo.

I would just like to add my vote of confidence and total satisfaction to that of StakeMan above. After fighting with my truck and babying the transmission so as to minimize slipping (at this point I was stock other than the RV injectors from TST), I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the solid shifting and lockup I now have with the ATS tripple lock converter and their valve body. Since the transmission upgrade I have also added an Edge Comp too. Life is good... ..... if your VISA card can take the beating!

ATS R O C K S :D

How much power can the otherwise stock transmission hold with the triple lock t/c and valve body only, no other internal mods? Whole transmission is too much money right now, but considering t/c and v/b.

Truck is 98.

Thanks

Eric

how much can it take

Zeeew,

I don't really know, but would recommend calling Don or Clint at ATS. They will give you a good, honest estimation. From what I have read and heard, you will never get the converter itself to cry "uncle". It will take anything anyone has thrown at it so far.

ZEEEW, how many miles does your trans have on it? Don told me it's fine to install just the TripleLok and the VB if the trans is otherwise in good shape.

But call him and ask him. 800-949-6002

If you get the TripleLok & VB now, that will help your trans last longer, then when you re-build it in X number of miles, you can bet the TC and VB will still be good!

ZEEEW,today I ordered the triplelok converter. Nice people to talk to. I ask what to upgrade when trans. will be out, they set only, if I want to go very crazy with pumping the engine to extremely high HP, to add stronger input shaft only. That give me impresion stock trans can hold lot of HP, if is still in good shape. But I don't ask for specific HP number. Hope this help little.

M Oo.

Did you order a valvebody or shift kit or anything to increase clutch pressure or are you just adding a different torque converter?

Strick -9

I just ordered the torgue converter for now, but I will add the valvebody with the deep oil pan next month and I em thinking about the triplelok electronic controller add to it. But I like to know more about this product. If anybody have that, please let me know how do you like this. Sound to me like is more for truck with the engine brakes. And I don't know, if they sell only the shift kit. You are thinking to upgrade you trans. too or you allready did that ?

M

I have the controller and no exhaust break at this time. I use it mainly for engine breaking in town. I leave it turned on and it locks up at 32 mph and stays locked until speed drops below that.

M Evan,

My transmission is upgraded enough for the tiny bit of HP I'm putting out now. I'll need more later I'm sure.

The reason I asked was I wanted you to clarify your first post. It sounds like someone recommended that all you need is a $1350 torque converter and your transmission will be fine. Furthermore, if you plan to make a ton of HP you only need a "stronger" input shaft. I just wanted to be sure I didn't misunderstand.

At this point I would normally try to help you by explaining some things I've learned along the way about transmissions. But that's not my job. Instead, I'm just going to wish you the best of luck and hope that no one intentionally steers you wrong for a dollar.

-Chris

I think that anyone who wants to go for extreme hp needs to do more than a vb, tc, and input shaft. There will be no problem with just installing the tc all by itself, but I would at least throw in a valve body while I was under there if it was my truck. The vb will help the tc and transmission work together and maximize the potential of the tc.

Interesting. I wonder why ATS now recommends new input shafts. There hasn't been a mention of it anywhere until now. Is anyone breaking their input shafts that runs the ATS stuff? I'm sure if someone had, they'd inform the rest of us.

It is always recommended to do the transmission as a system. Doing just the TC is like doing a partial rebuild on your motor.

Think seriously about any major change, especially your transmission. I'm sure everyone would agree you only want to do this once.

That is a premium price for a T/C. Is it worth the extra $400+ over some of the others. Does the cost outweigh the benefit? That's a tough decision. I guess it depends on what your looking for in a T/C.

best advice is to do your homework and shop around.
