Trippin' transmission

My '05 CTD runs great and shifts great until I hook my trailer. I haul a 1600 gal. tank on a goose-neck. When loaded the transmission can't seem to find the right gear. I'm thinking that the liquid shifting to and fro in the tank is confusing the transmissions ability to sense the load. It seems to work best if I just floor it and let it shift. I'm wondering if there are any soft-ware changes that will improve the transmissions intelligence. Has anybody else experienced such problems?

Is there anybody who is not happy with how their automatic shifts while loaded? Have you done anything to improve on the factory transmission?

A transmission controller or a torque converter lock-up switch should take care of it kicking out of gear. A good transmission builder may be able to adjust the line presure to keep it from doing that also.

Diesel Transmission Technology has a shift controler you may want to check out. I just purchased mine but have not had a chance to install and test. It has three settings normal driving/tow and race. Give them a call.

Make sure no TSB's on such and that it has the latest flash update. Many times the latest flashes usually have a trans shift deal also.

If it really is the water tank, then I'm not sure the trans is the problem. I mean, if the trans is hunting gears when the tank is topped off (no sloshing) then I would say you had a problem, but with 1/2 tank of water (800gal X 8lbs = 6400 lbs of water sloshing around. I think that would play tricks on the auto. Maybe some baffles in the water tank?? Just some food for thought.
