Trouble Code Display?

The "check engine" light on my 2006 came on this morning on the way to work and didn't go out. What is the correct procedure for displaying the code on the instrument panel? I tried turning the key on-and-off quickly three times, but got no display. Thanks for the help.

Turn switch on, off, on, off, and then on - leave in on position and watch for codes at odometer.

Gary--thanks for the quick reply. I tried the standard procedure before my original posting and got no display. I thought there might be some changes to the 2006 that required a different procedure. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I had a cel and if i did the three times very fast it would work
