I have a 3500 2001 and when I tried to put it in low 4wd it was impossible any trick? I tried backing up a bit and forward. I am not home so I don't have the manuel so any tips will be appreciated. I had a flat bed trailer in soft mud uphill. I got it in but it was a chore. :--)

Try This

Ideally you want to be rolling at a few miles an hour in Neutral while pushing the lever into 4 Low, it helps to free up the drivetrain and eliminate clash.

if your stuck and cant move anywhere... I've found the best thing todo is shut the truck off and let things stops spinning in the transmission. With the truck off shift it into low, restart the truck.

I use to find that it was rediculously hard to get into 4WD. I read the owner's manual and still found no helpful hints. Then, on one of my "not so good days", I decided to show it who's boss. Just throw the lever! It has never crossed me since with this new found technique.
