Alright - this is new -

Go to start it, and it just cranks. Plenty of electric, but looks like no fuel. So, prime the pump a bit, maybe water in fuel (tank is 3/4 full and no light) - no good. Then I cycle the injection pump manual cutoff lever a couple times, and presto - fires right up. Runs good all day, off, on, off, on, running errands - all good. Get home, and it's back to crankity-crankity-crankity. So, cycle the lever again - no good. But I'm mad now, so I cycle it again a few times (worked before, maybe), and fires right up.

So what's goinn on? No lights on dash indicating something wrong, but aparantly there was just no fuel? Pump dying? Clogged fuel filter? Curcuit on pump going bad?

Sooo, now I'm not sure how long it'll go before whatever is dying actually dies for good.

Help???!!!

Many many thanks,

- S

Injection Pump

Check out the electronic connection at the injection pump solenoid. sometimes the blade fitting gets loose and "she no wanna start" this will seem as though the pump is getting no fuel and if the connection comes loose while driving it will stall the truck as though you've run her dry. just a thought, but this happened to me and I ended up replacing the solenoid only to find out it was just the connector on the back. good luck :)

Yup, I'd check the same thing myself if it were mine. There are 2 connections on the end of the fuel solenoid. One is for 12V trigger voltage, and the other is 10V (?) sustaing voltage.

If your connectors are good, then you may have a solenoid going bad.

You can undo the connectors and carefully pull the top off/out of the fuel solenoid. Look down inside with a flashlight. If there are little pieces of black rubber in there it's likely that the thing is bagged.

You can remove the spring/parts and put the thing back together again. It will (should) start right up... . you'll have to use the manual shutdown to turn it off from that point on, untill you get a new solenoid.

(whew) - glad to hear it's in the electrical department. Because this is an intermittent thing I figured it had to be something like that, but I wasn't sure how much electrical wiring was incorporated into the pump. Good deal - will troubleshoot and reply/post on results.

TDR rocks. Thanks fellas -
