I have a 2001 4X4 with towing mirrors (fold out, not electric ). One mirror has become so loose that is will not hold its adjustment. If I close the door to hard or just touch the mirror, it looses its adjustment.

Does anyone know, can these mirrors be taken apart and the adjustment tension increased? If so, how? Does the mirror just "snap" into something in the housing? My service manual doesn't cover this mirror specifically.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Should I just have dealer fix it under warrantee (big hassel)? My dealer really isn't that close.

Thank for you help,

Bob

Do a search on this topic. I seem to remember someone had the problem and had a way to take it apart and do a good fix. I have them on my 02 and have not had any problems yet, touch wood.

What Thomas said. My passenger mirror would not stay adjusted, called the dealer for a fix and was told to forget a fix, just bring it in and we will put on a new one. They did, in about 15 minutes, and been fine since.

Then again, my dealer has been great to work with since day one.

Take it to the dealer and get it replaced... you are still under warranty probably... ... . I have done this twice now for the passenger side... . they just replace the whole thing...

I had the same problem with the drivers side mirror on my '97, the dealer fixed it when I had a warenty no problem.

Now after 200,000 miles both mirrors flop around in the wind a little; any known fix?
