I took my truck in last Thursday and had it timed. I specified to 15 degrees. Well after getting the truck back Friday, they said that it was 11 degrees and they finished up at 15 3/4 degrees. Now its a dog going up hills and they are not even big hills. Would it be possible to take advantage of this timing advancement by adding a fuel plate and GSK and new injectors without retarding the timing again? I'm out of my league when timing and mods are concerned. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Almost sounds like they timed it wrong to me. Might have turned the engine the wrong way to me. Or, the gear slipped on the smooth tapered shaft.

Yes, you can add all of those mods without retarding the timing. Get gauges if you don't already have them. Not listed in your sig.

Noticed you have a 5spd. A #10 plate can slip a stock clutch all by its self. Better save for one before you add more than a plate.

bmoeller,

I have a Southbend 13" OFE for a clutch. Rebuilt xmission with full spline main from 4X4 in Montana. Also have a PDR cam I installed after my KDP let loose. Plus gages. Those are the only mods to the eng that I've done.

WDainels, sorry to hear about your problem. I know it's tough when you pay someone for one thing and they do something different.

Sounds like they went the wrong way.

Did normal diesel knocking sound get louder or quieter after the timing adj?

truck should get louder with more timing. . sounds like big marbles in there =)
Usually you get a power increase and a temp drop.
something fishy is going on there.

Yes it got louder. Also started better. Plus its much quicker going through the rpm's to shift. I went and talked to the outfit that did the work to see if they would make right the work that they didn't do properly. They danced around the issue like a champion cha cha dancer. Couldn't pin them down on anything which, means they won't make it right. Oh well, live and learn. Well, worst case scenario, when I leave this October I'll stop at PDR in British Columbia and see what they say. Of course I'd like to have it fixed before driving the AlCan during the winter.

You're good then. Oo.

Hopefully your turbo will be up to the task then. :)

BTW, how do you like the Pac Brake? Thinking about getting one for the '99. :D
