Cummins/Dodge engine progression

correct way to clean engine

I am enjoying reading and learning as much as I can about my "New-to me" 2001 2500 4x4. Can anyone point me towards a website (hopefully) where I can put in the VIN and get a detailed build information? I am certain that thr truck is original. I do not know which transmission I have or if I have a Dana 60 or 80 or both... and many others.

Sure! Your lookin' at it.

You have an auto or stick? Your axles are the Dana 60 front (Made famous by the military Hummer) and a Dana 70 hybrid out back.

The transfer case is the LD 241 with the auto, and the HD 241 with the stick. Right guys? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, don't worry.

Fill in your signature and these guys will tell you things about your rig that will amaze you. The average member here has FORGOTTEN more about the Cummins powered Dodge than most dealerships even know.

Oh yeah, welcome to the TDR.

Brian,

Thanks for the input on the differentials. I actually found the original window sticker. It says this truck is a 2500HD. It lists an upgraded transfer case as the 241 HD with the 4-spd auto. The original buyer specked the truck with the 2CG option package that included the camper special and towing package too.

I have a 2001 and I took it in to buy touchup paint and the guy at the parts counter punched in the VIN and gave me a complete build list. Ask your local parts guy to run a STAR printout, it is nice to see everything, and I mean everything on my truck.

Did that cost you anything.

Yep, I went up to my Dealership to pick up my title paperwork and asked my salesman to have one ready for me. Had it with my paperwork for my title. Didnt cost a thing.

I did put lots of guages in. Lift pump pressure, boost, EGT, and transmission temp. Actually, I installed a Banks Powerpack. Oh, my... .
