Automatic Tow Rating????

load from Duncan, SC

I am thinking of getting a truck camper maybe like this

camper

I have to be able to also pull my enclosed race car trailer so I am limited to what can hang out the back of the truck. Are these campers functional? Are they a pain in the a** to put on and remove from the truck?? What else do I need to know????

Look at the roof real good. It's a weakpoint on allot of campers. Have some one go up on the roof and just move their weight up and down (not jumping), and look in through the rear door and see if the cieling is moving. This is usually a good indication of how well the camper was originally made and what kind of structural problems it may have. Also look the inside over real well for any signs of water entry. Look everywhere you can.

Friend of mine has a slide in, but he's got a gasser dually. It's practical because he also flat tows a CJ behind him with an extension. The extension effectively reduces his tow rating to 6000, IIRC, but it's the best solution.

If you can afford it, maybe a combo RV/car hauler might be available. I have dilusions of granduer in regards to coming up with a nice LONG trailer with space for a camper, etc...

The biggest issue with the slide in's is that we're put over our GVWR pretty easily, with all the heavy hardware in the trucks already.
