Hey Guys,

I am going to be ordering a new truck cap. I am planning on a Leer with the rail system on it for my Kayaks. I have seen other racks, etc. that people have on their caps - my question to those who have them, what do you have and do you have any pics?

Thanks.

I have a Lakeland cap made locally here in Wisconsin. Nice for camping and when you need to keep alot of stuff dry. Mine has dual locking handles with side flip out windows. Don't know how to post pictures so I can't help you there.

I have a Leer Commercial cap. For the most part it is a good cap although I think the installation & set up could really have been done better. For instance the lift gate had a tendency to slide to the left even after taking it back several times. Eventually I fixed it myself & it now remains stable. Also the side liftgates have cheap brass used in the locking mechanism & after only a few months one side stripped out the threads in the brass.

I'm not sure how to post pictures but if you send me your e-mail address I'll send you pictures.

I have a Raven, can't remember the brand name though. A rack for yaks would be better from Yakima, go with the tracks kit with or without nuts and add towers to it. You get yakima quality and you can get it in 3 lengths and you put it where you want it.

Just ordered the new cap at lunch...

Went with the leer 100R -

Options I got are:

- Yakima rail System - good to hold up to 200lbs. Plenty for the kayaks

- Headliner

- Front sliding window

- 12volt light

Now the 2 dogs have a place to ride... and it keeps the dog hair in the back rather them in the cab! :D

Cap should arrive in 2 weeks.

Toolman -

Once I get it all set I will have to get some pics up for you to see... Or at the very least, join you at the next get-to-gether, I had to work on the last one you held last weekend.

Was on the Berlin Turnpike - diesel is $1. 739 at the Citgo station... not bad! Of couse I took advantage and filled up!

Most definatly! Or if ya really want, feel free to stop on down for a night of coffee. Last nite was a humdinger. Rough run diag with injector swap , oil change , espar removal/ repair , backup lights installed X2

Anyhow did you order it local? Are they strictly a leer dealer?

Toolman,

When are the coffee nights and where??? I will do that.

I ordered it a Middlesex Truck and Van in Newington - right off the Berlin Turnpike. Should be in sometime the first week of June.

Dogs in the back LOL, that was the original plan. Never happened. The wife changed her mind. You should try traveling with 3 Newfoundlands and a Doberman in the back seat some time. ;)

Leer Cap

I have a Leer cap with the Browning option, flip down sliding window to cab , probably the best item I added to my Dodge. The cap is great for camping and for November Hunting season in NY. With my propane heater I am as snug as a bug in a rug when I sleep in the back of the bed!!

LEER

Forgot to mention; if I went out and bought another pickup truck I would buy another LEER cap with the Browning option in a heartbeat!! No hesitation!!

That picture Tim posted looks exactly like mine, except mine has the brake light in the window (older model). Paid $200 for the cap used, and then $100 to get it painted to match my truck. Mine is also a dog house for my Doberman and it keeps all the camping gear dry on the ride from home to the lake.
