Truck just died, ran rough as hell coming off the highway. idles for 5 seconds and stalls. turns over a half a revolution. then only a click. Got oil, batteries both show green dots, and no other recent low voltage signs. cables are tight. No codes in the odometer. had run great until this, even today.

Acting like it's seized. motor was out 2k ago for a crankshaft. new belts, hoses, clutch, lift pump. inside looked ok.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

What's the oil on the dipstick look like? What were the pyro readings while it was running "rough as hell"?

Oil on stick light greenish, still mostly clear, and 1500 mi on the oil.

The shop says mabye one cell on one of the batteries went, leaving the thing with enuf juice to look ok (lights, etc) but not enuf to start. I will try to go down with a multitester this afternoon. No EGT avail, have not put the probe in yet. But not towing and running at 70 mph on the freeway in cool weather.

Thanks.

If you can find one of those induction ameters that you hold next to a bettery cable when you crank it could help. I had a Buick that had seized and the starter was drawing over 600 amps and it would still hardly turn over.

That's where we are leaning, put in 2 new batteries, and still nothing, put the jumper cables on in case the new ones were not well charged. we got her to turn over about a half to 3/4 revolution. Slow as *&$*, very wierd sound, kinda lumpy, like there was major resistance for part of the revolution. Starter worked, but the rubber plug had blown out. No hint of starting. Lift pump cycled, all else seemed normal. Still no codes, or anything visible from the exterior.

naturally I am at 101 and change. had the crank put in at 99,600k.

This is very bad, I need this truck for work, I am self employed and cannot afford rentals or repairs.

Erosion from the front crank seal. there was a slight groove causing a leak that was not fixed with new front seal(s). The mechaninc is a good one, and I don't want to think he screwed up, but I am running out of things that fit the symptoms. I will have to push it to the dealer and see what they say on monday or tuesday.

If its not under a " warranty" of any kind drain the oil and see if anything else comes out that don't look right. :(

I thought of that, but no way to do it where it's stuck. The crank and all associated parts have a 12k warranty. (gaskets, bearings, etc. ) from my research here, I do not suspect the head gasket. I will keep digging, and report when I know something.

thanks everyone for your help. I will hope for the best.
