:--) Truck died doin 70 in rush hour traffic. Stumbled once or twice and shut off, coasted to stop turned key off and back on , no warning lights. Tried to restart and it just turned over fast, would not5 try to start. Fuel guage says I have fuel. Opened fuel drain on filter and some fuel came out, got back in and turned the key on and bumped the starter but the lift pump did not run. Tried same thing again , still no lift pump. Is this what happens when the lift pump dies? Had the truck towed home to the driveway, couldnt leave it set on the highway with a couple thousand dollars wort of tools in the back. I need my baby back ASAP to pay the bills. It is my work & play toy, asny help would be greatly appreciated. If it is the lift pump I would be able to replace it myself, I am a pretty fair mechanic. Thanks in advance!! Also, I had the lift pump replaced per TSB while under warranty, would DC replace it again now out of warranty because of a reoccuring problem???????????

Sounds like the lift pump. If you bumped the started and it's not running, it must be dead.

It's about a 30-45 minute job to replace. When you pick one up, consider getting new washers for the banjo bolts. The nuts are 10 mm if I remember right.

There was a theory floating a few months ago that a lot of lift pumps are replaced when the problem is electrical. You might try un and replugging the electrical connectors to the pump. I'd also get out a voltmeter and check things out even if this free test didn't do any thing positive.

Good luck, RJR

I have seen the LP run and still not pump fuel. My neighbor always had the dealer do his filter change, he asked me to show him how to do it. We changed the filter and bumped the key to get it to prime, the LP ran but no fuel. So called diesel mech. said it was air locked, right. I got it to start and he to took it to the dealer under warranty of course and it was the LP. Moparguy could be right check the connections and see what that does. When my LP died the truck would start and run then die like yours did, I changed the LP and the problem was solved. If you are out of warranty I don't think they will change it, it's an easy job. I did mine in 30 min. Good luck
