As I was leaving my house tonight, I was smoothly accerating through 3rd gear and the truck just died on me. I checked the codes on the odometer and got P 1693 and that's all. I just replaced the injection pump about 2,000 miles ago. I've had a steady 15 PSI fuel pressure at the filter at idle and haven't seen it lower than 11. The truck has a torque dog on it so I tried unplugging it and the truck still won't start. It turns over but it just won't start. The lift pump still cycles and shows about 16 PSI. Any guesses?

On page 25-16 of the 2000 service manual it gives the following line of information.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module

A fault has been generated in the companion engine control module.

Next line down

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM

A "Companion DTC" was set in both the ECM and PCM.

I have seen these codes when I had a bad ground connection with my Edge/Comp.

Hope this helps. :(

I cracked #1 and #3 injector lines and I am getting fuel there. I checked the fuel filter and it looks okay, but the plastic on the top of the filter has seperated from the rest of the filter. I wouldn't think that would keep it from running, but I'll try replacing it anyway.

Would a bad ground make the truck shut off so suddenly and not start? Any other ideas?

When my VP when out the plastic was seperated from the top of the filter like that. The shop said thats more than likely why it died.

Well the VP was installed September 11th and died October 14th. I'm not sure how many miles are on it, but I can find out by looking at the odometer. I'm sure it's less than 2,000 miles though. The fuel filter was replaced at 130,000 miles and the truck now has about 135,000 on it.

The truck is at the Dodge dealer right now. I guess I'm just waiting for the call that my VP is dead. The broken fuel filter is a Fleetguard. I bought the VP from ADP in California, and I'm not sure if it came with a warranty or not. Everywhere I looked said their pumps came with a 1 year warranty, but I forgot to ask ADP. Does anyone know if ADP warranties their pumps? I really don't want to spend another $1,000 on an injection pump. Do y'all think I should expect ADP or Fleetguard to replace my pump, or am I fully responsible?
