Truck died today. I figured it was the lift pump but after reading seaches on the subject, it seems the truck should run with a dead pump. My question is did anyone's truck die and it was the lift pump? I turn the key and the lift pump is dead. It have about 31,000 miles on it. It's at the dealer now and i should here from them tomorrow.

My truck died 3 or 4 times when the lift pump was failing. Spa fuel pressure gauge would go negative seconds before engine cut out. Bumping the lift pump a few times, via ignition switch, would return pressure to normal. Fuel pressure would remain normal as long as I drove like I had goldfish on the seat and an egg under the accelerator. It was very repeatable.

Before I replaced my lift pump, I tried the lp fix I had read about here. Well when I went to start the truck Someone forgot to hook up the pwr lead to the lp, truck started fine, no fuel pressure for some reason? Rev'd up the truck a couple of times still no fuel pressure, hmm WHATS THAT,,, WHACK me hitting myself upside the head.

As I proved through meticulous trouble shooting the vp-44 will run by itself, though for how long is the question.

If you change your fuel filter and the lp will not self prime its getting weak and should probably be replaced.

I think it has a lot to do with the precise position and condition of the pump vanes - and also whether the pump is totally dead, or just seriously wounded... If the vanes are not totally blocking off fuel flow, the mechanical pump inside the VP-44 can apparently overcome SOME obstruction - but if the path is completely blocked, and pump completely dead, it's walkin' time...

Well the dealer replaced the lift pump and the truck runs like a champ. I aqree that if the vanes blocked the fuel flow the truck would quit running. Only explanation i could think of. I was alittle scare after reading other posts and they said there truck would at least start and run if you babied it. Good news the dealer gave me no problem. I expected some questions because i do have gauges installed and quickly removed the EZ before being towed to dealer. Thanks for your replies.
