I was just returning form a trip in my truck and about a mile from home the truck just started to not have any power, no throttle responce and engine light came on. I costed to a stop and the truck died. It turns over but no start. I checked the codes and all I have is 1693. I have a fuel psi gauge and it still had perssure 15psi. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have the codes pulled with a proper reader (smarty or other) and prey P0216 doesn't show up. That is how mine died. Did you have any hard starts prior to this?

John

I think some autozones will lend you a code reader. If not have them pulled even if it costs a few bucks. Then you will know for sure if there are any codes. Sometimes when something dies suddenly the system doesn't have time to set it in your odometer. I only had 1693 when my VP44 died but when pulling them with a reader I had a bunch related to the VP44.

Could be vp-44 some die without code. loosen the injection line on 1,3 5 and crank it over to see if you have any fuel coming out. hope this helps.

i tried checking for fuel on my freinds truck when the pump died and it stll had fule at the injectors but wouldnt start and the pump was dead

Hi guys, well it ended up being the inj. pump. I talked with John Hucksdorf at Hucksdorf Diesel in Franklin WI and he helped me out with the diagnosis and unfortunately thats what it was. I should have kept my 12v... 226K miles trouble free:) Oh well, thanks for your responses and good luck with your VP-44. Hopefully the new one lasts longer than 97K(which is probably not that bad from what some of you guys have had failed#@$%! ) Thanks again.
