Help!

My truck dies when I put it in drive or reverse. It was suggested that a TSB 18-014-01 reflash would solve my problem. I took it into the dealer this morning - they did the reflash and said it didn't do the trick. They've kept the truck overnight so they can 'troubleshoot' my problem. Read DOLLAR$! Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?

Help!

Jack since you have the DTT upgrades, I would suggest a quick call to Bill for some advice.

It should help save some $$$

Terry - I had the same problem with my truck when I had the 275's and DTT stuff put in. I know yours has been in for as long as mine, but here is what fixed mine.

TSB 18-015-00A

I know it makes no metion of transmission problems, but that is what they did and it worked.

Bill K had me measure a voltage on one of the wires coming out of the pcm to check it. I can not remember which wire or what the volatage was susposed to be. I do remember that it had to do with my idle speed being too low. You might suggest this to the guys.

Did you take the VA and other stuff off or go in fully Bombed.

By the way. . the next meeting is on the 26th at Gus's shop... injector install on deck for him, and maybe gauges.

Good luck and let me know what happens. I am on the slope or I would come and help you...

Terry - I just found an email from Bill K from when I was having that problem. He has a dealer friend that suggested two different problems it could be.

First was that the tps voltage is too low, and there is a reflash for that. The second was that the crank postition sensor is faulty. This would give the ecm false readings at low RPM and cause the same problem. I don't think you have the crank position sensor, but you have a cam position sensor and they do the same thing.

Just a couple more ideas.

Dealer tried most current reflash for poor fuel (winter fuel) meaning #1 and #2 mixed 50/50 or in different ratios. You cannot find #2 here in the winter. In Fairbanks they commonly use all #1 as it is so cold. They have this die going into gear problem in stock trucks as well as ones that are engine or transmission Bombed. Replaced injector pump - checked lift pump pressures not a gelling or fuel lift pump problem. Tried new ECM truck still dies. I really believe it is an engine problem. Truck starts fine and runs great. Disconnected fast idle and checked TPS voltage ok-still dies. I'm really convinced its a engine problem as it also dies when engine brake is applied. It does not do it every time with the into gear or the x brake. DC checked everything and sent me home. They know they have a problem with using #1 in cold climates but have no solution now or since 1998. 5 trucks . I'm stuck for the answer. You're not having a problem with it are you ?You use # 2 year round.

My truck still does the same thing,i rasied my tps from . 5 to . 7 it didnt help, got the flash14-18-01,it didnt help,i guess ill try the other flash18-015--00,if this doesnt do it,ill have to drop down injector size,i really dont want to give up 20hp at this point,I love my DD3's.

If you can put some #2 in it. Like 34 gallons and see if that helps. I would but no #2 in AK in the winter. Seriously are you using blended fuel ?

when i put bigger injectors in the extra fuel brought my idle down low enough that if i turned the wheel or put on the brakes at idle it robbed the vacuum & killed the engine. turned up the idle problem solved. hope this helps dansel

My truck was stalling when it was hot out and the truck sat for while after it was up to temperature. Go to the store come backout in a while truck would start fine but when I put it in gear it would die. This started after I put DD2's in it so I called Bill at DTT and he sad to check my APPS voltage at the PCM. The voltage was low so I put a new APPS in it and that has taken care of the problem so far. The manual says to not to try and adjust the APPS sensor but in retrospect I think I should have tried to adjust it before I shelled out the cash for a new one. One other thing I noticed just before I changed out the sensor was that if I started the truck, put it in neutral and gave it throttle up to about 1200rpm for about 15-30seconds it wouldn't die. With the DTT TC in my truck I noticed that after it is warmed up it will creep at idle if I don't hold it with the brakes. Is the TC getting heat soaked after sitting and stalling the engine for that reason? Just a thought.

Mine did the same thing after I got my DTT transmission. As soon as I would put it in gear it would die. Went to the dealer, did the cold start reflash, and it hasn't done it since.

When I lived in Alaska I had the same problem for a year and started with the BD transmission install. The problem was the injector pump was bad. Replaced it and everything has been fine until now I have a 0216 code so I'm just waiting for it to die again.

same deal on o1

you guys are talking like it may be an issue with cold weather,i live in southern california and mine does this as well. i tried the reflash, checked all the grounds, im at a loss. if i tap the throttle as i shift from park to d it usually will go. for now it is a good theft deterrant. any suggestions.

Didn't want to say anything until I knew it was fixed for sure, ( here comes the jinx) but once the warm weather hit my truck was getting hard to start hot and it was dying again when I put it in gear. It ended up being a bad VP-44 for me. At least it gave me a chance to have Sheid put one of there HP VP-44's in it. The truck never ran so good.
