A friend of mine has an 03 ho with the auto. This has only happened 3 times but he is curious. He will shift it into go and the truck doesnt move. Then there will be a quiet noise(that only his wife can hear) then the gear is engaged. Its delayed. He said one time he had to wait 3 minutes. Any ideas?

I did a quick search and couldnt find anything similar.

This sounds like the same thing that both of my half tons with auto transmission's would do when parked for extended periods. I work offshore on a seven and seven basis and when I would get in I had to crank my truck and let it idle for a minute before shifting. If I tried to shift it right away it would not move. If allowed to set for a minute it always shifted. I was told that the transmission needed to build up pressure because of it being parked for that amount of time.

Its only sitting overnight and in some cases a few hours. Can you give me better criteria to search with? I came up empty. I was curious about the recall on the drain back valve in the TC.

Possibly the anti-drainback valve is leaking back. Our Durango does it as did my '95 Cummins Ram. Without the anti-drainback valve, it would do it every morning. If it's leaking back alittle, it might be intermittant. The valve is under the radiator where the cooler line goes into the transmission cooler on the driver's side. What's happening is the torque converter drains. Then it takes a few seconds to refill when the truck is put in gear. It won't fill in Park. The quiet noise might be turbulence as the torque converter refills. Just my $. 02.

Mine is removed on my 1998 1500 slt. It takes longer then a few hours to drain back. Mine never drains back in a few hours it takes overnight or more.

My CTD with the 48re has never done that, but I have an old Dakota that does it regularly. If I shift to R and then to D it seems to clear the problem. My worry is one of the kids will rev it up, and then it could shift into D unexpectedly at 2500 rpm. The drive line could get quite a shock. If your RAM is still under warranty, get the dealer to fix it.

truck don't go

One way to check for the torque converter draining back would be to check the oil level in the trans. first thing then when it does go recheck the level. If the torque converter is draining back the level would be very high. Just a thought : 600 horse
