I had a visit from a depressed friend today. He was doing routine maintenance on his new-to-him early 01 2500 Auto the other day. When he opened up the rear diff mayhem had been loose. Small chunks of spidergear and clutch pieces came out

The spider-gears had not grenaded yet, but they where barely gripping.

When he came by me he had been on parts hunt, but no one locally here in town or in Norway all together could help him out. Since Dodge are just getting back on the market over here there is no help from the dealers either and spare parts are at least 300% more here than the dealers in US

I have done a search on differentials here, and after two hours reading I decide to ask for help instead.

Could anybody here please help us with where to get quality parts at a decent price? What he definatly need are new clutches and the assembly parts. The spidergears are scuffed and missing some small parts on the edges so they might needs replacing also. There is no visible damage to the ring and pinion. There was no noise in the rear before he discovered this, and the carrier bearings feel nice and smooth. Should he go for a total rebuild or could he settle for less and just replace broken parts? Today the truck has only light duty, no towing or hauling just a everyday truck. He is wrenching on Case agricultur tractors and are capabel on doing his own work, he just need some pointers and parts.

I should also mention this that the truck have been a plow truck in Canada, and so far he have rebuilt the whole front end and the truck have signs of little to non maintanace. I belive he have a Dana 70 rear since he don't have a rear sway bar and no overload/helper springs. The numbers on the axle are; 52069469 AK. 3,54 gears and the last # are 60544-2.

Any help are appreciated :)

Automatics had the Dana 70 rear end. Manuals had the Dana 80. The sway bar and overloads were the camper option. I would try someone like Randy's Ring and Pinion in Everett Wa. http://www.ring-pinion.com/

If it is a two piece carrier, has four spiders and two side gears it is a power-lok unit. If it is a one piece carrier it will have two side gears and two spiders. Either way you can get the dana parts from Randy's Ring and Pinion very fairly priced. You can talk to Allen at ext. 5570, he knows his parts well and you can get the complete internal kit from him.

Thanks for the info guys! It got four spiders, and it's also an Auto. So I guess we have narrowed it down it to be a Dana 70 with a power-lok then. I have thought that the Dana 80 always went with the camper group, now I learned something today also :) Good to hear it's a vendor in the Seattle area since I have good connections there. My friend's have their restoration shop in Lynnwood, so I might get one of them to pop up there to get the parts for me right over the counter.
