My truck just started dying about 5 seconds after it first lights off. Hard to start after this and runs rough for a few seconds after it does. First thought is lift pump letting the fuel drain back to the tank, but also thought of fuel lines. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

If you haven't replaced the return line you will have to sooner or later, do it now, it sounds like the problem. They will sometimes leak air without leaking fuel, hard to tell by just looking. If that doesn't help check the overflow valve.

Thanks for the replies. All of these parts have run through my mind (empty as it may be)as a possible problem. I just replaced the shutdown solenoid relay a few weeks ago but thought the solenoid itself may be dirty. Can these be cleaned? Also, the overflow is under the banjo on the pump, correct? What do I look for when checking that out? The truck only pulls this stunt once in a while, but I'd like to find the problem before it becomes a habit. Again, thanks.

My truck would only exhibit problem if sitting for 2 days or more. I had already stretched out spring for valve once so I was expecting the demise of the spring. The valve is on the engine side of pump towards the front of the truck. Put a rag underneath to catch the washers. Once you have it out pull it apart and check spring length. Should be (I think) . 550 in. If it is short you will not have enough pressure in the pump to keep it happy. Use the priming button on the lift pump when you are done. Enjoy!
