Waiting Impatiantly!

What date was yours Built?

Mine was built on 1/20 and has been sitting is storage ever since. Just called DC and its still hasnt shipped? My VIN is 4G1952**.

Centreville

Valjct is a main RR yard in Centreville, IL just southeast from East St Louis. I believe it to be the major RR yard for dispatch to other carriers both rail and truck. They do use the 24 hour clock.

My truck left Laredo Tx about 0700 2-5-04 and has been making slow progress towards Valjct, IL since. As of this morning, it had just crossed into IL and is supposed to arrive in Valjct at about 1600 today. :D

I believe it will then be put on a truck for the trip to Pittsburgh area.

This is a bit like watching grass grow!

If you have your rail car number, you can use this link to track it as far as St Louis. From there, I'm not sure.

If you don't have your rail car number yet, you can get it from DC by calling the 800 number or from your dealer. The Union Pacific web site is down at the moment but when it is working, you can expect an update every hour or so.

Murphy's law says though, when I want to know where it is the worst, that is when I can find out the least!!

Yes, it gives intermediate positions. The only negative is sometimes there seems to be a 'stall' in the information flow. As I understand the way this works, there are sensors placed at intervals along the track that pick up the car number and some other data including bearing temps, and relays it to some central location. That data is used in part to track the location of frieght as well as maintenance requirements. I suspect that sometimes the rail car of interest is put on a siding waiting, among other things, to be made up as part of a different train. I am only guessing but it is during those times that no progress is visible and you just have to keep checking back. For example, my truck has been in someplace called Simbco, IL now for over seven hours and the arrival time at Valjct, IL has slipped by 48 hours so far over the original arrival estimate. BTW, those town names are sometimes abreviations for some obscure RR designation rather than a real town name. But you can still track it pretty well. I don't know what happens when it goes onto a truck. I suspect I will then just have to wait for the call from the dealer.

Hang in there , it won't be long now! George; mine went by truck from the centerville RR yard to my dealer in Pittsburgh, not much further than your place. When I checked with DC at the time it arrived in centerville by UPRR they said it made its second rail connection , must be to a small rail line near the truck yard. They said it was going to my dealer by Cassens Transport. I found their website, Cassens.com , and there is a link to tracking the truck. You have to enter your vin # and the 5digit dealer number which should be on your sales invoice. Don't bother calling Cassens its a waste of time, they won't give you tracking info on a "Chrysler". Their data base is slow to update but it did give me the date and time it left their yard. I got the call from the dealer that it arrived a few hours before Cassens tracking actually showed that it had been delivered!!! It arrived at Cassens on 1/27 and showed up at dealer on 1/30

Yard Time

CMeese,

After your truck arrived at the yards in Centreville, how long before it was trackable on Cassens site? 24 hrs? 48 hrs? My truck arrived at Centreville yesterday at about 1600 and Cassens does not have my vin in their database yet. Just wondering:)

Thanks,

George

My truck arrived at Centreville this am. It still has to go by rail car to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Any idea how long it will be at this rail head before moving on?

George, Mine arrived at centreville Monday aft on 1/26. I checked with DC the next morning 1/27 and they said it was transferred to Cassens. Later that day my vin was in their vehicle tracking system, but did not show a ship date until the 28th. Hope this helps,

Charlie

Charlie,

Well, according to UP, mine arrived in Centreville on 2-10 AM and the rail car showed as empty on 2-11 AM. My VIN did show up on Cassens inventory later that afternoon. Nothing more yet but I did see on my dealer's trace page that is it estimated to arrive at the dealer on 2-20 7PM. Nine days seems like a long time to travel about 600 miles even allowing for stops along the way. Oh well, what's another few days in the life of the truck?!?!?

Patience is a hard thing some times!

George

George -

It took mine about 5 or 6 days to go from Centerville to the dealer. I lost track of the truck once it hit Centerville, and was about to call the dealer when he called me and said "it's here!"

Which dealer did you buy yours from?

Can i just go pick mine up at the railyard since i live right here? it is on the same rail car the others listed was on. :D D Oo. Oo.

MO'Donnell,

I have been dealing with Vasko Dodge on US 19 in McMurray for a number of years now. Steve Vasko has treated us right and I like doing business with the local folks. It is a family run business with brother John Vasko running the service. They have worked with me on two previous trucks including the present ride: '02 CTD 2500 SO SB SLT/Laramie 3. 73 etc. I'm trading to get the better tow rating so I can be legal when towing. I suspect the weight police will be touching us in the not too distant future and don't want that hassle. Besides, I wanted some of the bells and whistles the new ones have!

DC predicted 2-17 for delivery and the dealer page says 2-20 so I guess I can expect it sometime next week.

What dealer are you using and what is your satisfaction level?

Waiting sure is hard sometimes... .

George

KevinO,

That really seems strange that you live right there and yet had to watch your truck slowly make it's way from Mexico to Centreville! Now it will probably be put on a truck and hauled across the river by way of Chicago or something!! Sure hope not.

BTW, what trucks do they make in St Louis now, if any?
